Blockchains are great for money. Cryptocurrencies help people to freely send, receive, earn, spend, transfer, store and save money worldwide, outside of state and corporate censorship, surveillance and control. However, blockchains may be less suitable for social media content for multiple reasons.Open source federated social media platforms such as Mastodon and Pleroma (ActivityPub) offer the benefits of decentralization, customization and censorship-resistance, without the privacy, storage and financial issues of using a social media blockchain. Why federated interoperable servers (e.g. Mastodon, Pleroma) are better than social media blockchains:- No fees to post, like or comment. No need to buy & hold an altcoin. (It can be difficult to find accessible KYC-free on-ramps for fiat -> crypto and crypto -> altcoin.) No financial startup costs or barriers.- Low storage requirements: No need to buy a large SSD or pay for an expensive storage VPS to host a 100+ GB blockchain of the entire post history of all users.- You can easily delete your data (account, posts, comments, etc.), which is good for privacy and may be necessary for safety reasons. Whereas data on the blockchain stays there forever and everyone can read it.- Your data stays on your server (or chosen third party server, if you don't host your own). Your data isn't stored and shared on thousands of computers (full nodes) worldwide.- If banned from one server, simply signup on a new server. You will still be able to post, comment and follow like before. Unlike Twitter, there are no global bans from the ActivityPub network.- You can decide how you store your data, e.g. send daily encrypted backups to cloud storage or delete your posts weekly for privacy reasons.- You can support external crypto tips or simply post crypto addresses in the bio. You don't need to upload accounts and content to the blockchain in order to support monetization and crypto tips.

@AnarkioCrypto On data deletion, public posts are copied to connected servers. When deleting data a request is sent to those connected server, but there is no demand. ActivityPub public posts should be assumed as not being able to delete.
