Mozilla is going to incorporate ADS on their browser, camouflaged as "suggerences".Im starting to get really tired of Firefox already. But there is no good alternative.

"Ads is what keeps the internet free".Wrong. The Wikipedia has no ads, its community driven funded by donators and investors who keep it alive. I doubt Mozilla really needs that money considering how much interest it generates. Its pure greed.

@enigmatico remember when Brave tried this but they were optional and you actually got paid to look at then and everyone complained for years that they even made it an option lol

@icedquinn Brave pays you crypto if you enable that. But its opt-in, not opt-out like this.

@icedquinn @enigmatico yes. Wikipedia is the opposite of a good example.Their political and history articles are widely criticized as thinly disguised propaganda ads. Something like half of the edits on american politicians come from the white house. So the claim it does not have ads at all is false. Finally, the website fundamentally is about ads because they only allow secondary sources. They do not allow primary sources, which is not only the standard but also the requirement of any scholarship. Instead they artificially prop up journalist interpretations of primary sources as a replacement. However, journalistic interpretations are, on the face of it, ads. It is paid writing done to math a specific tone and narrative, in this case that of the paper's mission as interpreted by it's editorial staff.Wiki even made a move years ago to make the math articles useless for math because "they were written by mathematicians". Now instead of only math students reading the wiki math articles, nobody does. So not only is it flush with ads - and the worst sort, the sort that is not identified as an ad, and is even purported to be knowledge - but also the quality on wiki has dumpstered.Mozilla is not someone I want to defend but Wikipedia is not a counter example.

@fluffy @icedquinn Im not discussing the content. You can access the content for free and there are no ads on the website.

@enigmatico Waterfox is a fork of Firefox, and was unfortunately bought out by some ad company but it's better than regular Firefox at least.

@Arkana @enigmatico Any idea how it compares to FF with a hardened user.js profile, e.g. https://github.com/pyllyukko/user.js/ ?A common criticism against forks I've heard is that they're not as well maintained, even if you manage to find a decent one. Chromium and Brave aren't quite as customizable as I'd like them to be, but maybe part of my resistance to those is out of habit.

@cidoku @wizardyuuka On my old computer waterfox was definitely better preforming than firefox. Although my harddrive was dying from old age so by the end both were pretty bad.
