@sergeantcat @sugarbell @chjara not necessarily. there are some sexist etiologies of transness like feminine essence theory but there's nothing sexist inherently about wanting to acquire physical and social characteristics of the other sex. in a way it's an extreme form of gender nonconformity.

@georgia@netzsphaere.xyz @sugarbell@handholding.gay @chjara@mk.absturztau.be I think what I'm getting hung up on here is the idea that traditional gender roles for men and women are stereotypes and we shouldn't categorize behaviors as male or female behaviors or appearances and just let people be people. And I think that's a pretty common understanding. See the person, not the social construct of what that person is supposed to be.But, when people identify as trans, they tend to adopt the stereotype of the other sex to "present" as the other sex. So, they're using a sexist stereotype to "present" as the sex they want to be recognized as.I'm not sure how someone would be trans without doing that. Just pointing out the conflict between seeing people as individuals and generalizing a sex to take on its stereotypical attributes.

@sergeantcat @sugarbell @chjara for most people it's simply a matter of hating their body and natal sex characteristics and wanting to feminize or virilize it to exist with a degree of contentment or at least not misery. the social stuff on top doesn't need to exist. a lot of "radicals" want to do away with transness because they think it's inherently rooted in gender roles and not sex.
