“Haaland, a member of the Pueblo Laguna tribe, said she has frequently seen Native American family members posting pictures on fences and the sides of buildings to help locate missing girls or women. When that happens, “you know I see my sisters,″ she told reporters Thursday at a news conference. “I see my mother. I see my aunties or my nieces or even my own child. So I feel that every woman and every person who is in this victimized place deserves attention and deserves to be cared about.″ “https://apnews.com/article/united-states-native-americans-cabinets-45dd43bc356b90eb18637cede8c7b212

@LostInCalifornia I like that she holds the news media accountable.'"I feel like it’s my job to lift up this issue as best I can. And hopefully, the folks who are writing the news, and broadcasting the news will understand that these women are also friends, neighbors, classmates and work colleagues,″ she said.'

@snerber She does it well, and I have been impressed with her so far.One death is a tragedy though. Multiple deaths is a statistic. CNN has switched to banging on about black men and women who die unnoticed, so I’m worried indigenous dead girls will be swept under the carpet again – that’s the function of a noisy lobby.IMO, some intrepid journalist needs to focus on one girl, one family, and make it real for people.

@LostInCalifornia CNN reporting how CNN has failed to notice all these dead black people is rich. The media outlets were getting some pushback on that ongoing hypocrisy. I guess it hasn't sunk in for some of them.Focusing on a particular case of a missing indigenous person, at least one at a time for a while, would probably be a good idea to get more people invested. I think what's going on with indigenous women is probably a more systemic issue that needs to be investigated.

@snerber Yer on CNN. There are jurisdictional issues with the missing girls. Native police are not allowed to charge non-native men, so that leaves it to the US enforcement and the FBI. One girl, one case could illustrate that.
