@meeper chromebooks seem to be doing okay considering I expected them to die 5+ years ago. normies just use their PC as a bootloader for chrome these days though so I guess that makes sense

@meeper@outerheaven.club just do something better than office and make it available on linux.it can't be hard. ODF is open and LibreOffice is an overcrowded mess that could potentially be abstracted away. Nobody who needs all of its tiny tools uses Office or LibreOffice anyway. papers they use LaTeX and for pamphlets they use Inkscape/Illustrator/InDesign/AcrobatKalligra would be a good place to start. It already abstracted away most of the tools. But of course, we are either too lazy or we don't have resources to do it. We also need to deal with the sharing aspect of Office documents.

@lanodan I wanna, fuck I'm gonna try it, when the time comes, I'm just afraid that it's an impossible goal, and I may need to keep stuff in a restricted license for a while, ie selling off my principlesBut yeah I have some ideas, a very flexible, kinda old mac like system with a ncie manual and a decent advertisement maybe with a few fun net gamesHopefully it can be cheap considering software is an inefficient crap and hardware is cheapSo maybe there is hope if someone acts fast

@lanodan If I do so, I'll try to gradually make it an ecosystem like oldnix and market how we efficiently use technology and are the first ones actually innovatingalso exposing internals in a good way will helpMaybe it can be marketed as a productivity system that doesn't manipulate you

@meeper@outerheaven.club I also hate just how awful free software developers tend to be and their direction being abysmalAlmost feels like ms pays individual developers to be braindead

@emilis yeah, instead of playing on the strenghts of the ecosystem it's just making it worselike nobody has a consensus and everyone hates each other

@meeper@outerheaven.club yeah that’s like a good explanation of itSometimes it just feels like the users are hated and devs made it for themselves only

@meeper like it's incredibly hard to distribute binaries on because of the fact that it's basically a family of operating systems

@meeper e.g. if you want to use dynamic libraries (and you'll probably want to use dynamic libraries because glibc), you have to specify the path of the loader in the executable. which isn't universal.

@meeper like sure, you could technically get around that...but the method of doing that is such a horribly masochistic hack that it's obviously not a robust way of doing things
