@velartrill I run Windows 10 Ameliorated in that VM to save myself some of the pain. A community made patch that removes a good portion of the bloatware, also everything related to activation so no need for a key.

@dushman @velartrill Yeah I've seen similar advice. I'm waiting for proton to update it's compatibility with the really old 90s and 00s games. I mainly play those over modern games rn. I've played Morrowind with expansion mods and Russian fallout mods this entire and I'm still not bored lol.

@velartrill i have 3 thinkpads, all running windows, one for work and 1 running xp and one running windows 10, that is dual booted with arch Linux, I have an m1 MacBook I use os x on, then I got a couple pis running debian, one works as a media box and desktop, 1 is back up and seed box, then I got an old netbook running haiku that I use to ocassionally browse gemini sites.

@velartrill I haven't used Windows since ~2006. Times I almost had to use Windows:- Accounting class homework in Excel... Open Office struggled to open xlsx files, but got it working regardless.- Teaching job was 100% Windows, but actually just needed IMAP credentials. Used Linux version of Zoom. Taught students Ubuntu basics.- Developer job asked me, "Do you want a Mac or Windows laptop?" I managed to do all my work on a Linux USB, bypassing all of their Windows bloatware.
