@grumbulon @ruina Yeah m8 this level of interplay and funny-business, like literally the bassist and guitarist and vocalist have a lot of humour in *how* they do what they do, like this absolutely bonkers guitar solo at 3m in. The screaming and animal noises, monkey howling and such lol. "I'm a government man" lolThis level of humor used to only be reserved for avant-garde and jazz players, (I can think of Zappa and his crew and Monk specifically) but the 80s were a really weird time for underground music, and borderline music that's popular and well known but doesn't gain mainstream acceptance.

@grumbulon @ruina I like to think this song could easily be considered ArtRock/AvantRock (I honestly struggle on the main difference, but cake is sort of ArtRock and Zappa is more Avant-Rock IMO)

@grumbulon do you like metal and good breakdowns? One of my favorite metal bands is basically all breakdowns, "Danza II: The Electric Boogaloo" is my recommendation, if you just want one song "I Don't Mean To Impose, But I Am The Ocean" is an amazing song, my favorite from them. @coyote @grumbulon Yeah I listen to them too. I remember I started listening to them just before they broke up. The Lead started that other band (68'), which is good in it's own way, but isn't metal anymore obviously.

@icscarythings @grumbulon I haven't listened much to 68' but I remember them being more post-hardcore/punk. Playing fucked up Marshalls, recording with SM58s on the drums and guitar. Really old school stuff. They were definitely different from Norma Jean and The Chariot. I liked that they were a duo. You might like Ed Gein - Judas Goats And Dieseleaters, great album. I don't listen to much metal anymore, but I really appreciate Animals As Leaders and that's most of the metal I listen to these days.
