It’s easy to say we are fighting against big tech and we dont think twice about it. The family owned Mexican joint I was at yesterday had the QR code thing for menus. Maybe I should have fought it ,but I’ve known the owner for over a decade and she said that she is hanging on by a string. She said that it is cheaper to pay the money to host her website than to provide menus. I believe her. During the lockdowns she had to adapt and she went into serious debt keeping her place afloat. Yes, it sucks that big tech swooped in and said here is a life line and she took it. It kept her functional. Now I asked her what it cost her to print menus and it was like $500 a month or 6k a year. Go daddy charges her $25 a month so yeah big tech whatever but that makes her a lot more every year. This is how big tech takes over ,but you blame the small business owner this is a direct result of stupid rona overreach….

@judgedread she has a chalk board with the menu up front and if people insist she will give the a black and white paper menu. 99% of her customers have eaten there for years…

@Jdogg247 maybe she could just put a tv on the wall and update an image of a menu or something? thats interesting,. all her customers do what, scan a qr code and then find the menu on their phone via the web? i went to a restaurant that was doing that and the shit didnt work.. lol. mom and I had to ask for paper menus because we couldn't figure it out. sure i mean i can build linux desktops, but i can't figure out how things in the iOS ecosys work sometimes..

@judgedread they were nice pictures of the food etc. I can’t get over the fact that 99% of the people went there ordered the same thing every time, it may have been out of the way in a ranching town ,but these people have money like stupid money and they still wanted to hold that menu…
