@danny Idk. Tosdr assigns these grades. Since fosstodon is part of mastodon, it also follows these terms.

@XxAlexXx that isn’t necessarily true. Different instances can have their own TOS., although Fosstodon’s don’t seem much different. The disclosure to third parties without informing users is tricky as this is legally mandated under the Patriot Act. This is what Warrant Canaries were invented for, and might be a good thing for Fosstodon to consider @kev.

@danny @XxAlexXx we use the Mastodon ToS.There’s no such thing as a private message in mastodon. They’re DIRECT, not PRIVATE. Everything can be read from the database (although we don’t) if someone reports a DM, we need to be able to see it though, that’s the rationale.If you wanna send something private, don’t use Masto, be it Fosstodon or any other instance.

@danny @XxAlexXx WRTto sharing data with 3rd parties, I can’t comment on that @eugen would need to comment there.If we received a court order to provide data, we would have to comply, or shut Fosstodon down. @mike and I would need to discuss it and decide in that circumstance.

@kev @XxAlexXx Yeah, and with Mastodon there is the solution for those who don't like an instance's ToS. Just launch up your own one. 🤷♂️

@kev @danny @eugen @mike @lig I don't mind the private DMs, I really don't. The issue I have is not notifying the users when their data is being asked. I don't mind you giving my data to authorities, just notify me when you do so. At least give me the curtesy of knowing that my data is being asked. I am having an issue because its not even required to notify at all. So the person is kept in the dark on whether or not his data was asked.
