For those of you who are vaccinated: are you considering getting a third shot? Regardless, I wish all the best to you all, :ablobreach:

@Ari I will get it when it is available (not yet recommended in US, though soon, probably). I now get a flu shot every year. Many Vaccines do lose efficacy after a time, depending on the virus etc. and I do believe that if we want to stop covid worldwide, vaccines are the only way. This is a pandemic, that is clear, and if we want to stop the deaths and serious effects then vaccine is the best way, and a relatively safe way for most people. I have seen no believable evidence that the vaccines cause any harm. Weighing them against the risk of getting or spreading a deadly covid, then to me that is a no brainer.

@Ari If it is recommended to do so, I will. Right now, there doesn't seem to be a consensus tho

@Chronic-Yonic @Ari In Canada, so far, only those who are immunocompromised in certain ways are being told that a third dose could allow them to have a stronger immune response. For everyone else, a third dose is not recommended.

@Fullycaffeinated @Chronic-Yonic I've heard and read the same, though I feel like at least in my country they plan to extend it to everyone.

@Ari @Fullycaffeinated If they do reach a consensus on a third shot that needs to be done, I'll do it, I'll do my *social* duty to help stop this from spreading and staying around.

@Chronic-Yonic @Fullycaffeinated Well, you would certainly protect yourself for the chance of hospitalization. The spreading is sadly not contained by the vaccines.

@Ari @Chronic-Yonic @Fullycaffeinated it reduces spread, but doesn't stop it. that's true. but if the masks + ventilation/hepa filter + hygiene + distancing + vaccines are all happening together it would stop. Our home help said this morning (she delivers groceries to the door, still not havin anyone in the house) that her 20something daughter is still refusing the vaccine. her sole reason is because her friends aren't getting it.nothing to do with health conditions, concerns about side-effects, nothing valid or fact based at all. just her friends aren't getting it. And she doesn't want to go against the social group. Despite knowing that her mum had covid in January and was very unwell. What they call 'mild' because she didn't end up in hospital, but she was ill for 3 weeks intensely and it took 3 months before she could start working again. She was really knocked side-ways with it.I personally feel there is a genetic factor involved in how some people have taken risks and don't catch it (as well as dumb luck) and how some people catch it and don't have a very severe reaction. You hear repeatedly of whole familes getting it and several dying. Other families one person is mildly (like really mildly, hardly ill at all) ill with it and no-one else catches it. But without knowing what that is about, and knowing which group you fall into, it's stupid to take risks. We don't know why I got ill in the first place, or why I got worse 14 years ago, or why I got New Disease 2 years ago. So I don't fancy my chances being one of the lucky ones that doesn't catch it or only gets a sniffle.

@Ari @Chronic-Yonic @Fullycaffeinated and btw for all the 'it's not necessary to be careful with parcels or shopping' people. Post van stopped at my gate, variety of packages (mostly 2nd hand paperbacks mum wanted) and our usual postvan man stopped to chat with his pal, not distancing, no masks. And whilst stood there with my bundle of parcels he sneezed into his hand.I am quite glad that I had no intention of handling them right away. They are in a clean binbag right now, and if I decide to open them before Tuesday I will wear gloves, and having disposed of the wrappings back into the bin bag (til tuesday) will thoroughly wash my hands still inside the gloves (marigold type) so they are clean for the next task and I didn't annoy my skin with the extra washing.
