@Gina I personally would stay away from crypto at far as possible. IMHO that's a dumpster fire on all levels.

@Gina It's effectively a pyramid scheme; if you make money out of crypto speculation, it comes from other people's pockets (suckers, “long-term investors”, or HODLers).

@Gina I own crypto. If you think of it as "an investment to make 'real' money"...then it's just gambling (but then, so is the Stock Market, just less volatile). If you think of it as "new kind of money I should have some in my wallet"...well, it's still a gamble, but better mindset. Some crypto is environmentally better than others...if you care about that (you prolly should), stay away from 'proof of work' coins (esp bitcoin), look for 'proof of stake'.

@Gina I'm a big fan of the Cardano project, but all of this stuff is pretty new. Check out some of Charles Hoskinson's videos on youtube.

@Gina I don't think there is a link between intelligence and cryptocurrency.Better do research on cryptocurrency before deciding to invest in such things.

@wizzwizz4 @Gina Isn't that the case for anything you can buy and sell though?

@Hyolobrika @Gina If the market value runs miles away from anything grounded in reality, yes, it *can* happen. But it doesn't happen, most of the time; the ratchet of cryptomining means there are basically *two* pyramid schemes going on at once, each propping the other up during times of crisis.Pull the rug out from under one (which we'll need to do, if any of humanity's resources are going to be saved from the fortunately-not-intelligent computronium monster) and it'll collapse.

@wizzwizz4 @GinaMy attitude is mostly the same as @nattiegoogie’s[1]. I don’t want to get into crypto in order to “get rich quick”. I want to get into it in order to be able to make and receive uncensorable transactions in a currency that can’t be debased by a centralised government.Could you explain what you mean by a “double ratchet”?And as for using up humanity’s resources, have you read this document?[1] https://mstdn.io/@nattiegoogie/106901814688914638
