@LukeAlmighty @sirjofri @jgoerzen yeah, they just mark things as spam and count on the fact that you can’t actually reach them and complain to them.i once set a site up, which no one else had seen pretty much, and the site was marked as having content that is against the community guidelines, it was a simple wp webshop, i read the guidelines, it didn’t break any of them, they just recognize things that are actually independent sites, which people might use instead of facebook, and then ban linking to them.

@sirjofri @jgoerzen @LukeAlmighty yeah, certainly i wouldn’t even try any of this for a personal site, but i’m maintaining a webshop for a friend, and so i have a problem in that my job is to “maximize customers” for them, if i’m not trying to do that i’m not doing my job, and since he’s selling to boomers, he has to have a facebook presence because that’s where the boomers are.but i’m not knocking anything you’ve said, you’re completely right.

Community Standards/Guidelines usually have something about mentioning alternetive platforms to move people away from the platform. This rulr may go unnoticed because Facebook and Twitter (social media duopoly) won't make such warnings or take action when link for one another was mentioned in a post. YouTube has the same rule and does give strikes to channels if host tells people to go to Twitch for livestreams.@jgoerzen

@deutrino @jgoerzen I deleted FB years ago so I personally haven't seen this, however reports of this started around September 1st. They have most definitely blacklisted joinmastodon.org at some level, and the Algorithms are retroactively and somewhat randomly applying this block to posts containing this domain...some of them weeks to years old.I think the System doesn't (always) immediately block such posts, both to make the anticompetitive behaviour less obvious and because it is being applied through a scan of historical posts instead of in real time. How quickly posts are blocked may also depend on how widely distributed the post was and how much engagement it is getting.I wonder if posts to specific fedi instances are getting blocked...like is it just scanning for URLs or scanning the content within as well?
