@meena @Gina I recently did a poll aimed at Fosstadon asking if they likes posts other than FOSS software posts. 1/3 said Yes, 1/3 said Some, and 1/3 said No. I found that surprising.

@Gina @MrDers @meena The main issue of offtopic was discovered long before Mastodon. It's not prejudice against particular people, it just doesn't scale. Fosstodon is fine because the community is small, but scale it to 10k people posting offtopic stuff and the game is over. To get an idea - compare the local timeline and the federated timeline. The first is finely readable and during weekends even feels emptier, the second is 99.99% infogarbage.
