@Hollahollara terrifying. Good that he saved the puppy but otherwise TERRIFYING.I lived in an apartment in my 20s and the very weird building manager was always appearing in the stairwell. I got a new neighbor and he stopped me one day and told me he'd seen the building manager outside my apartment door more often than seemed at all normal and he suspected the manager had been going into my apartment while I was out. that's the whole story... I was not in a financial position to move out, I stayed out my lease and then was moving anyway for other reasons.

I don’t really understand the whole one-dimensional/multi-dimensional character thing either. @LostInCalifornia Again, you keep saying that and I understand the sentences as such, but I won’t be able to see it in a book or a film. The closest I’ve got is that sometimes I think a film or a story is waffling on about irrelevant things instead of getting on with the story, only to gather that other people consider that “well-roundedness”. Likewise, my spouse is never going to understand why leaf coriander tastes like soap to me. And I’m never going to know what it tastes like to him. @Hollahollara

@LostInCalifornia Nope. Don’t have any Chandler here, and I don’t write fiction. Ever. I’ve never been either very good at nor particularly interested in “what is he thinking” type of questions. I can interpret words and actions quite well, but the internal lives of others might as well be alien planets. @Hollahollara

@LostInCalifornia Well, one of my common complaints with books or films that my spouse likes but I don’t, is that I just want a story, I just want to know what happens. The other stuff is just window dressing. As I’ve asked my spouse, why would I want to know someone’s motives? Motives are only interesting to the extent that they can be used to predict future behaviour, and that’s only interesting if I have something real and personal in the game. That’s never the case with a fictional story. @Hollahollara

@GnomeshatecheeseFuture behavior (how) is a part. Why? is also a large part of most people’s enjoyment. In nonfiction, why? can lead to false leads or the truth. In fiction, why? leads to your own inner workings, true or not.That’s what makes fiction interesting. @LostInCalifornia I think you’re finally getting close. I don’t really care about emotions. What makes fiction interesting to me is that it’s stories that often could not or would not happen in real life. Not because of inner workings of myself or others. Events and actions are what interest me, emotions are just window dressing to them. @Hollahollara

Example: If a bank robbery is done for greed or to pay for surgery, it’s okay as long as a helicopter blows up.The helicopter stirs up some kind of emotion response in the audience, whether or not the action loving audience admits it.That’s why action movies exist.

@Hollahollara @Rogue_Koala I live in a very old house that was built in the 1880s or maybe 1890s. I found out it's called a Gothic Revival Bungalow. I have never experienced anything weird in all the decades I have been in this house. It was my grandparents' house when I was a kid. The energy here is very solid and peaceful. Good for thinking and creative work, if you can ignore the traffic blazing by sometimes. I think the previous residents were generally happy.

@BeachBleach @Rogue_Koala I have lived in houses that had a good feeling to them. I have lived in houses where deaths occurred. One house I could never get right, not the light, nothing about the interior arrangement. I sold that house recently and hope it works out better for the next inhabitants.The first house I rented in Austin was also the site of that year’s first murder. I did not even know, but a friend and her husband told me and asked permission to come over and sage/pray over it. Sure! Never any bad vibes there, before or after.

However, the oldest thing I found was a land grant on parchment, from The Republic of Texas, signed by Anson Jones in 1845! You never know. It's demeaning, like much of Christian doctrine. I had a very cool law school professor that was universally loved by the students. I went to his memorial service at the school and they had a bagpiper play Scotland the Brave. I thought that was much better!!

From what I have seen, the part of a funeral that takes place in a church is often done according to whatever the hell the organist and preacher decided that day. Often unfortunate.
