@Gina first time in a long time it actually has some space to rest probably. Give it, and yourself some time if you are able.

@Gina can't explain but can sympathize. It's a terrible feeling. Had never felt it before my lab job and now, 1.5 years after walking out that door for the last time, I can still feel it on bad days. Guess it takes time to undo 4.5 years of mentally intensive work. Best of luck, take all the rest you can get.

@Gina One thing I found is that when you feel you sort of recovered from this and can get back to stuff, it's too early. Very easy to slip back into it.

@Gina I felt this at the end of 2019 (when i lost my job)...I have a theory that it is a little similar to what scuba divers feel if they come up too fast from a deep dive...some **decompression** is needed, and your brain lets you know about it. In the case of job changes (or other drastic life changes), your brain has been under so much pressure, and now that pressure has been released way fast...but don't worry, soon enough that pressure will equalize. ;-)

@Gina you can always bop yourself on the head and go into a comfortable, thats like hibernation mode 😆. Best part is that no one will be able to wake you up until you are ready to wake up.

@Gina do hibernating animals really wake up refreshed though?I always imagined them very groggy instead. Imagine waking up after a long period without food, bowel movements, muscle exercise or fresh air, not sure what has been going on around you.

@Gina less sleep, more exercise might work for you? :)Something where you can focus on your exercise and not have to think about anything else.Especially seeing how you seem to be quite an active person already.

@Gina This is a good sign, actually. It means you were in alert/danger mode all day long through your job. Now your brain knows it's safe.Give yourself some breathing time (keeping yourself active, but I know you're doing great in that department!) and you'll be great in no time 💖 Sending all my love!!

@Gina Are you feeling stressed at all? Are you sleeping well? Because those things can make me feel mentally drained even though I shouldn't be.

@Gina Since you asked, some possible factors:You were previously stressed/fatigued. You can no act on it rather than force yourself to get up / work every day. You've just yanked a massive portion of your daily structure away: tasks, socialisation, motivation, purpose, etc. Those take time to replace.Burnout.Uncertainty over what comes next. Even though you're not doing anything now you'll have to eventually. Going back to the same situation may not be a viable option. Identifying what you can do is hard. Your mind is probably blocking on a lot of this.Play. One of the great things about hobbies, play, and undirected explorations is that they are activity without consequence. Work and professional life are nothing but consequence. The basics: eat, sleep, move, socialise. Do what you can. Rather than set goals, I'd focus on tracking activity and response (mood / feeling / energy), and aim at gradually boosting all of those.Doubt and social challenge. The people still around you, especially those who knew the professional you, are possibly challenging / doubting your present course of action. My experience is that this itself is exceedingly toxic. (Mind that the challenge may come from their own stress, burnout, and insecurity, not that this helps much in dealing with the fact.)I realise that this is a hell of a time to be doing any travelling, but if you can, it seems to be one of the more refreshing things. Doesn't have to be anything major, and daytrips can be helpful, though I find getting away for a longer period to be helpful. It's a change of scene and removal from old memories, cues, and triggers.Based on my experience / research. YMMV. Good luck.
