@AbbieNormal note that the quality of the photos on #pinephone depend on software, converting on the fly the .dng (negative from the CCD, stored by megapixels) w/ some settings to a jpg image.Importing the DNG in a raw image processor like darktable for instance can give surprisingly good results! In the end it's up to us (the communities of users) to define better processing scripts to get better photos! ie. the photos are bound to become better and better.. and you can start hacking now! ;)

@jz is the libremphone more advanced on the camera ?If their software is free, it shouldn't be that hard to draw from that, should it ?

@AbbieNormal no idea. i am not interested in such an expensive device..for the postprocessing of photos with Megapixels, it's really simple to customize:https://git.sr.ht/~martijnbraam/megapixels/tree/master/item/data/postprocess.shone shell script and here you go... so in the long run it's easier to have *exactly* the type of pictures you like: very saturated and contrasty, smoothened, black and white, etc. that's the way of free/libre software: if one is looking for comfort/easy, they to the wrong place, should check apple/google instead ;)

@AbbieNormal "2592 x 1944 pixels should be enough for everyone!" ;)no seriously, the key to the #pinephone (and to happiness in life in general?) it to not raise too much the bar of your expectations.. imagine it's the hardware equivalent of a samsung S3.if you like photography you know anyways you need to carry your piece around, be it film or not, with a proper lens.. pp is the photographic equivalent of *taking notes*, and it more or less does it. (also cam is slow to initialize..)

@AbbieNormal go for it! it's cheap and fun and rewarding, and spare parts are gonna be out there for a while so you can also make it "durable" somehow.... and it will enable you to contribute to useful endeavours... in short if you don't get a #pinephone for yourself... do it for... #science! ;))

@AbbieNormal maybe some day we see there in the same form-factor and for a similar price a new camera module, with more megapixels, to install in a snap as a replacement to the old one..?
