I’m seeing person after person on Facebook, especially men who are anti choice, trying to argue that women will get 6 weeks to choose whether to get an abortion or not in Texas. They’re completely unaware or being deliberately disingenuous that 6 weeks pregnant equals 6 weeks after the first day of your last period. The average woman doesn’t have a perfect 28 day cycle. Mine is currently 40 days, so just about 6 weeks. I wouldn’t even know I’m late until at least 2 days after that 6 week deadline. There are going to be women in Texas who find out they’re pregnant just days after they no longer have a choice. I’m absolutely tired of men and their belief that they get to make decisions for women as a class.

@starsstorm FFS. Yes that six week clock starts 2 weeks before you even get pregnant the way it is counted. Then there’s how long it takes to realise you missed your period like you say, and how long it can take to get a positive reading on a test. Then there’s how long it takes to access the procedure. But why am I bothering to argue this? Men arguing the reasonableness of this rule have already told us whose side they are on. I hate men so much, I really do. As much as they hate us being in charge of our own bodies.

@starsstorm the supreme court backed the decision, as well, so there's no changing it anytime soon. And, Texas also made it so the father can sue any Texas resident who leaves the state to get an abortion after 6 weeks.I think the next best thing to do for women is legit get them not only out of the state but have their residency legally change. Is there any campaign or organization to get the word out there and help women with emigrating Texas?

A lot of women have no idea they're pregnant until months after the fact. This is what the "heart beat" bill relies on. @samuraikid I’m aware that cells, embryos, and fetuses are alive. I’ve given birth twice and had three miscarriages. All of that has made me more staunchly pro choice for whatever reason a woman has. Pregnancy isn’t cute or sweet. I almost died from a hemorrhage, which is one of the leading causes of maternal death.

@starsstorm The "6 weeks" is also just a nasty bait-and-switch. Good luck booking an appointment and jumping through all of the hoops that they will put in place next to use up all that time. Most clinics make you take a pregnancy test at their own facility before even scheduling an abortion. By the time a woman who is perfectly regular misses her period, she is already down to two weeks. There is no way a clinic is going to be able to schedule for the test AND the abortion in that tiny window.

Operation Rescue et al. These anti-abortion people, Don Treshman, Flip Benham and others, are scary as hell. They think it's okay to kill doctors who do abortions. They said they thought it was just dandy that Dr. David Gunn was murdered and that Dr. Barnett Slepian was murdered. They are domestic terrorists. The judge wouldn't let them get away with anything. The woman judge later lost her seat in the next election, where she was replaced by a right wing Bible thumping man, who campaigned against her for that ruling in favor of the Plaintiffs. He forgot to mention that there were 12 people on a jury that made that award, not the judge. The male judge doesn't understand why he can't hang the Ten Commandments in his courtroom and get away with it. (((SIGH)))

@starsstorm It is unbelievable. But men, as they ever were, are all about controlling women, whose one job in life is apparently to service men in one way or another. Of course we must be forced to pass on their genetic material at no cost to themselves once it's got itself established inside us. A child is not a child to these men, it's their great genetic legacy to the world. An extension of their own narcissistic self. No way should some female be allowed to mess with that - females do enough to thwart that by rejecting men for sex far more than they ought to be allowed to.

So the actual menstrual cycle was an bare bones overview combined with don’t have sec or you’ll get pregnant and die. Naturally we had tons of teen pregnancies.

Back in the early 80s my girls’ school covered variation in menstrual cycle and the fact that sperm remained viable in the woman’s reproductive system for anything up to a week. They did also tell us it was possible to get pregnant during your period (it isn’t - but some women spot mid cycle, and if a woman has really light periods, I suppose she might mistake mid-cycle spotting for a period, so they were probably erring on the side of caution).
