QV crew - is there's any reliable data on the number of American troops who are presently at Kabul airport? On 16 August, the 82nd Airborne was deployed there and my understanding was that increased the troop numbers to ,~7,000. Is that still the number?Thanks for any info you can provide.

You have to assume that any decision these DC clowns have made in this Kabul surrender will have been poorly planned, made in a panic, with a high probability of disaster.Next epic screw-ups? Will be the evac of US troops on the ground.Let's see.A C-17 has a capacity of 160 troops + gear. Let's be generous and say they pack in 300 per C17 for this evacuation.7,000/300 = you need 23 C17s. If they use 160 capacity, 44 C17s.

Let's say there are 5,000 troops. You still need 17 C17s (with 300 pax). You need 31 C17s.Apparently they were able to get 1 x C17 out per hour (see below) a week or so ago. That's assuming the runway is operational.So best case scenario is a constant 1 hr turnaround over 23 - (worst case) 44 hours. If my calculations are correct.The danger is obvious. Basically, a MANPAD allows an individual to take out an aircraft or chopper.Individuals - trained Talib and / or ISIS and / or AlQ fighters in the hills around Kabul airport.They are incredibly dangerous weapons,.in the wrong hands.Take the M92 Stinger. So as I see it, the scenario is this.The US will have to evacuate 5,000-7,000 troops from Kabul airport. They're going to need about 20-40 C17s to do it. And they'll have to get them out fast, say over a 15 - 30 hour window (more likely 20-40hrs).Which means daylight take-offs.Each plane will be crammed with brave, young American soldiers and lots of gear.Each plane will have to clear say 10,000 feet to be confident of safety.

From the moment they start their take off run on the runway to 10,000 feet, any one of those birds can be taken down. Or all of them.I am praying that all of them get out safely. But can you believe that such a scenario is even possible? 5,000-7,000 US troops being exposed to such grave danger?It is CRIMINAL - shameful - that these young men and women were ever put in this position in the first place.Dereliction of duty?! @REX Washington seems to be singularly fixated on the Afghan refugee resettlement(most of whom never worked with American forces, it's been said a lot of them are on the no-fly list). Force protection didn't seem to be planned at all.They should have taken the troops out after the suicide bombing, it was clear then that no American citizens would be allowed to leave after that.But apparently they were still evacuating Afghan refugees as of this morning.

@REX Seems to me that if you we just incompetent you would get things right say 50% of the time - flip a coin. Everything here has gone 100% against American interests.
