ITT: An attempt on making color stickers on an inkjet printer with sticker thermal paper, because that's what I've had on handPic rel: first attempt, before I figured out how to tweak my inkjet settingsALSO: Art isn't mine, I took it from https://twitter.com/Powerto_24/status/1411891003745705990 because it looked very nice :3 (I hope they won't mind, I'm not going to be making profit off of these anyways..)

okay that was a lie, *this* is the first attempt. The printer has fooled me and started printing from the other side

Second attempt, with some questionably better color grading and changing the mysterious "Quality - Speed" dial to the "Quality" option. Definitely way too much magenta.I decided to clean the print heads (again) after this attempt, which has drastically improved further attempts.

Third attempt, after cleaning the print heads. Drastically better, even without changing the Quality dial (1st pic)Later (2nd pic), I've found some magical settings that made the print look even better (1440dpi, sRGB color adjustment. The printing process is *really* slow using those, but the quality is unbelievable for a 20-year old printer.

To make my prints more persistent, I decided upon spraying them with transparent spraypaint, a total of three coats. It was raining while I finished printing, so... I did it through an open window. Overally not a tragedy.3rd pic is me doing the spraying ^w^

After letting those prints dry out, I cut them out, and.. here's the end result!Looks surprisingly nice for prints made on a really tight budget, on a printer that's legally old enough to drink.

Also here's my printer setup - a B/W thermal printer by Star, hooked up over RS232 and a color inkjet printer by EPSON (stylus color 670), hooked up over USB1.1The thin client is a Fujitsu Futro S700 running Windows 2000 Server, because even though the EPSON printer is supported on Linux without a problem, finding any compatible drivers for the Star printer is nearly impossible.

@izaya I mean my favourite part about this setup is that after the initial driver install, it has not failed me once. And that’s already a lot, especially speaking about printers

@reds I've taken the approach of "make sure the printer has ethernet" because then I can stick it behind a generic postscript driver and pretend it's an Apple LaserWriter or similar baseline device and not think about drivers. They still stop working for nebulous reasons, my current one refuses to print black.
