@liaizon @sl007 LOL. I mean some people think that Smithereen is a reskin of Mastodon... And get very surprised when they learn that it's not. We might need to work on educating people better.

@liaizon sorry about that. But it was a genuine thought that popped up with me. And not related to cryptocurrency at all (someone else mentioned that relationship to me later), but more how much VC money in Silicon Valley flows from arab regions via e.g. SoftBank Vision Fund.

@liaizon People are quick to judge nowadays, but no offence taken. After all small toots are terrible for communication and worse for interpretation.No, it is simpler. A big corporate launches a new community website to the world, but just in two languages: Arab and English. Not Spanish or Chinese, etc.Maybe that is because the big corporate has teams in US and an Arab state. And Arab states are huge investors in big tech. Hence .. my toot.Wild speculation? Sure. Racial bias? Not at all.

@liaizon It is not a strange thought either, imho. Right now there's zero transparency to the BlueSky initiative. Who knows there may be a billion dollar project on the table already. Just sniffing at all the meagre information available and speculating. Implying nothing.

I've argued before that Bluesky can have more negative impact - directly or indirectly - on fedi than many people realize.
