@briar no store-and-forward. I think that's a big one. I recognize how hard it is to implement it, but that a critical feature for most users of such apps.Also, multiple devices tied to a single profile.I am aware that work is done on both, and that makes me very happy. :blobaww:

@briar Because unfortunately I've tried convincing them to use Signal a few years ago and quite recently they've started using it. Promoting anything else now would be dismissed as yet another weirdness of mine. I also suspect they'd complain it's one more app and they've already got too many of them.However, this is pure speculation. Soon I'll be meeting them, so why not actually try it. The worst thing that could happen is getting that look again. ;)

@briar Last time I used it (which is, admittedly, some time ago) I had huge problems with battery drain, messages took ages to arrive (which sometimes, they simply didn't) and it was quite finnicky on a bad connection

@briar - Not nativly working on tails (i know that there are ways to install but it's difficult fo tech noobs to do and thats important in my use case)- Really limited linux client (i know its still in Beta)- Still no mailbox server (makes it impossible to use for my use case)- No multi client suport (would be nice to have to work on tails and on a dedicated secure device at the same time)

@noxr You can read every rss feed in a separate timeline. Either click on the name of the rss feed shown in your blog timeline, or >blog >tap the menu with the 3 dots in the right upper corner >rss feeds >choose the feed you want to read.

@noxr Not every rss feed contains the full article. If it doesn't, other rss feed reader won't fetch the entire article either. You could kindly ask the person providing the rss feed, to include the full article, if you believe you would need it. With what you're correct: Mark an rss entry as "read" is not yet supported.

It's not well thought out, and I have very shallow understanding of the protocol; moreover, English is not my primary language, so all kinds of misunderstandings are possible. Still, my thoughts:I don't like switching between Contacts/Private groups/.../Blogs via hamburger menu. Maybe horizontal tabs to swipe left-right would be better, with active one shown with description and/or another color scheme? Something like👤 Contacts | 👥🗨🧾👤 | 👥 Private groups | 🗨🧾... and so on. But then -- what about hamburger, three dots, "pen"...?No possibility of profile backup/migration. Problem for single user, but if I understand correctly, it means also private groups going uncontrollable when creator loses profile, and problems with passing group messages thru travelling devices -- once the "courier" loses profile, the knowledge of groups membership he once had is also lost.Even without backup/migration, these two problems could be mitigated by possibility of designation: of co-owner for private groups, and of "courier" to maintain communication between separated groups.Would be nice indeed to have possibility to exchange files of various types in groups/fora and maybe blogs; but it would surely put strain on bandwidth and storage requirements (and en/de-cryption time). Maybe a setting for both publisher and receiver, to send/accept -- or not -- media? Depending on size and medium (no fun in downloading big files over BT)? But it may get overcomplicated and, consequently, scare users. Still, there may be a situation when it'd be desirable to propagate some content as widely and fast as possible, to avoid censorship or get quick and mass response; sending it in one-by-one chats may be too slow or cumbersome.

@briar so i read a bit more about briar recently. And i think one more major obstacle for social movements is the tor requirement. For instance, how to use PGP requires social movements to create custom step by step instructions/guides and for instance using signal is way easier. So i personally wait a few weeks in my groups before i introduce people to PGP because it makes things more complicated.so i think when the repression against for instance the climatejustice movement increases, people will start to use briar (and also tor), but until then signal is probably prefered.but i really like the concept of briar from a technical point of view. has a lot of potential and i feel safe knowing that i can use briar if i need that much safety.Especially, because recently i've read that edward snowden thinks metadata is more important to protect than the message content. But to be honest, i don't really have a deep understanding of that, only superficial.

@fruechtchen Thank you for your feedback. If it's not for the sake of it, it's always a good practice to not make things more complected as necessary. Sending PGP encrypted messages in a group usually always need one "expert" who teach the others. It can be time consuming if those that need to be tough aren't tech savvy. 1/3

@fruechtchen 2/3In that regards using e2e encryption where the keys are automatically exchanged solve most of that on boarding issue. Briar does that too. You just need to add each other as contacts, and keys will be exchanged. For e2e encrypted group chat the same: just add users to the group, and keys will be exchanged automatically.

@fruechtchen 3/3Signal does this too. Some others that do this too are Element/Gajim/Dino/conversations/DeltaChat. When it comes to hiding meta data, any of those apps require additional steps. Briar does it automatically, by having Tor bundled into it.Briar has still several usability limitations, but if one just needs text based e2e encrypted group chat via Android, it should be a solution that is fairly easy to use.

@briar @pfm I think most people don't know it and might become unsure if they can trust that program (e.g. happened with #Linphone to me) and maybe others they know also don't use it. Here my girlfriend installed Nextcloud and Linphone to communicate with me. :-)
