@DougAdamavich McConnell switched his public opinion of this Bill #1 a week ago, from opposition to support. That happened at the same time that Pelosi rashly said she would not bring up Bill #1, the infrastructure bill, for a vote until and unless Bill #2, the reconciliation trashbag, is also passed by the Senate.Unlikely to be a coincidenceNow the Democrats are responsible for whatever happens next. The GOP did their part and the focus is off them.1/2

@DougAdamavich Also, the squad and their cohorts are now openly opposing Pelosi on policy. They are furious with her and with the Biden cabal regarding the eviction mess. They are openly flexing their muscles and are well aware that they have the power to stop any bill in the House. It's interesting to see this develop. Bill #1 is a much smaller bill than Bill #2, and while it does have pork and rubbish, it does not contain any of the radical left wish list2/3

@timr @DougAdamavich Yet its the moderates/centrists who win control of Congress and the WH in a general election; progressives don't.

@DougAdamavich Now the Senate Dems can also say that they did their job as Democrats. Meanwhile, both Manchin and Sinema are opposed to the Reconciliation Bill - Bill #2 - in its 'current form'. Which is their cautious way of saying it will be taken apart and much of it removed, and that is before it even gets to the Senate Parliamentarian.3/4

@DougAdamavich But even that only happens, if it happens at all, after weeks of fighting - all of it within the Democratic party. The GOP has no role at all. The Dems may not have anything at all at the end of the day, because the Dems have drawn so many melodramatic lines in the sand that the gigantic Bill #2 may die of a thousand cuts.Too soon to know with certainty. But anything that survives will be a tiny fraction of the current garbage bad4/5

@DougAdamavich This is the clearest example yet of the internal civil war with the Dem party. This would never have happened during the period of unity, from the mid-80s to 2020McConnell just watches.more later5/6

@OneRandomGuy @DougAdamavich Yes. But the far left are well aware that the Dems are highly unlikely to keep the House next year. They have time on their side. AOC is almost half a century younger than Pelosi. There may not be much point to surrendering to Pelosi when they get nothing out of it

@DougAdamavich They might get Bill #1. I don't know if the Dems will hold to their threats. If they do, the infusion of even more spending is not good. But I don't see that Bill as being a major issue. On the other hand, the squad may play their cards and block it. They certainly have the votes. The Reconciliation Bill is entirely different

@timr @DougAdamavich Agree, though I should have clarified, "it's the moderate/centrists voters who determine who gets control..."(Swing districts and states.)

@OneRandomGuy @DougAdamavich Yes. The moderates are the key to victory. And the Democrats are now doing what they did in the mid 1960s - pushing out moderates by making them feel unwelcome. Both candidates and voters. However, then it mostly hurt Dems in Presidential races. The difference is that the Dem party was far stronger at the state level in the 60s and 70s and its power was much deeper than. Now they are in decline. Purging moderates is madness for them

@timr @OneRandomGuy @DougAdamavich One tactic for the old left to dispose of the new left is to, say, appoint one of them Ambassador to somewhere, or a department position. This would make way for less destructive candidates they would parachute in.
