Was watching a "Steam Deck for Developers" video and I'm kinda mildly alarmed that dev kits aren't out yet, you have to apply to get one, and supply is limited..Thats a misstep imoThey should be mailing these things to every major dev who has published on Steam

@ocean they probably are, I've seen a few with them already. its the tiny indie devs like us that will probably get left out.

@wolfcoder I super super just hope it works like they are implyingIf it really is as good as they are saying: press "a" to play the game like on Playstation or XboxI could see this being a huge hit

@ocean most games implement the steam controller API so it should work. Valve makes some pretty good trackpads so even mouse driven games might play comfortably too. if I manage to get my hands on one early I might get NDA'd though so I'd be unable to give any info before release data.

@ocean lots of Valve's developer documentation is viewable without an account though. this implies its going to work exactly as good as playing games in Big Picture mode with controller will:https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/steamdeck/recommendations

@wolfcoder If you can just straight up buy any game on steam and it just works as well as a PS5/Xbox/Switch then H*CK yeah.

@ocean don't forget you're limited to the power of the custom Zen 2 chipset inside, its built like a console so you might have to turn graphics down for a lot of games.

@ocean you can also look up your favorite games on something like https://www.protondb.com/ to see if they either have a native linux port or if the proton support is good enough

@ocean PS5 isn't very portable though haha. I want to get excited but the Steam Controller and the Steam Machine kinda remind me not to get too excited too early.

@ocean I plan on using it for a bunch of indie games, the kind of stuff I would play on a laptop anyways. if the game is available on the switch it tends to be more expensive and not moddable.
