There is no expectation of privacy.I believe from what I have seen Wides, graf, etc say that the driving force behind the private room is to allow the mods to have quick instant phone turning on and screaming alerts if someone is posting illegal material so that they may handle it without saying "HEY GUYS THERES ILLEGAL STUFF ON X SERVER" and drawing attention to stuff it is illegal to even have on your server, to allow them to moderate before announcing to contain the spread. If this is not a good enough explanation to provide an alternative explanation to "its for sharing illegal material possibly to entrap" then I do not think any dialogue is possible as I cannot think of anything sufficient that the mod chat could even theoretically produce to disprove that possibility. Any testimony from anyone attending in that paradigm is just assumed compromised and any screenshots assumed selective and if they invited you in to verify you would be the dumbest man alive (again assuming you hold the illegal content posting theory) to accept an invitation and get entrapped yourself.

He's been in IT for decades according to self-reports. At this point the question remains that the justifications given for a chat room for mods do not convince you and that the usage of a chat room in this context, because all of the stated reasons have been rejected as obviously false, can only suggest nefarious intent. So either graf, in this calculus, is completely incompetent and foolish enough to think using a chat room for this would do the job when any reasonable person would see a chat room would suggest nefarious purposes to share illegal content, or he is nefarious himself and has planned sharing illegal content with a wide swath of fediverse mods and is lying repeatedly about it.And really at that point, unless there is a single possible, even out of left field possible way of justifying using a chat room for this that can get us around "since there are no other valid reasons, a chat room can only be for sharing illegal content." I really do not see any way you could get a satisfactory answer here. Neither Graf nor any poast admin could be trusted and the admins who showed up either would not know or would have fallen for it and, being entrapped, would lie about it. Forgive me if I have misstated the situation but this is where we are at from my understanding.

It worked well, and helped identify spam waves and origins (primarily OnlyWire, which was originally written to get SEO links onto Fediverse sites). I see this as a sort of successor to !snadmins, but with much less chance of success. Weâre a much more diverse place now, so as soon as they start identifying illegal content, the question will be âwhere is it illegal?â, because each countryâs laws are different.Join or donât join as you like, but weâve had this before without it becoming some evil cabal ruling the Fediverse in the dark.

You did remove it after all, you should be fine in terms of no longer hosting it.I think Pleroma has no feature like a rule engine to deal with 3rd party ban lists (e.g. automatically adopt all bans from an extremely similar instance you trust + bans present on three out of eight of these instances) but I guess for now you'd have instance moderators and interested users read (RSS/XMPP) the bans the same way, no?

E.g. permanent or temporary bans / blocks pending investigation, pulling suspicious activity -stuff recently banned in trusted instances that is also present on the current instance- into a moderator's stream etc. according to what instance owners want.Should have some advantages:1. No secrets or cabals2. No actual need to agree about what you can/should report from the inevitable grey area even within a legislature + no risk of the "cautious" side winning3. Likely far better applicability across legislatures[4. If Pleroma ends up supporting a decent enough rule engine, it actually saves a bunch of work on a bunch of instances]5.
