@rasterman Imagine thinking power is more important than form factor for a portable. That thing's bigger and clunkier than a Switch, and most of the games I'd want to play portably don't really require that much power. The people begging for a Switch Pro mostly want to play Nintendo exclusives at home on a higher resolution and aren't as interested in portability. This kind of thing seems like a niche product to me.

@ChristiJunior @rasterman Vita was actually a pretty decent system outside of the fucked proprietary memory and Sony not giving a shit about it. This thing is conceptually flawed. If you want to compete with Switch on the portable side you'd want to make something actually pocket-sized, not something even bigger and bulkier than the Switch, which is bigger than you'd like from a portable anyways. 3DS clamshell design was nice, and if you could make something with that kind of form factor as powerful as a Switch you might have something going. But they're trying to make a portable that's even less portable than the Switch, which is already stretching it.

@coolboymew @ArdanianRight @rasterman I think this is going to to the way of the Steam Controller, that is a genuinely wonderful piece of hardware that fails because its not what people are used to. I think that Proton for something like this would be fantastic because its a single configuration where you can control the software and hardware stack. Most of the problems aside from anticheat are usually down to hardware and software configuration. Also I think people might be willing to put anticheat games not working aside, since its a portable.I can't wait for these to be sold at a discount when it inevitably fails like the Steam Controller did. Or for the used market to fill up with these things.

And I can imagine faulty hardware being a major problem. If it did fail I could see a small group of people using it like the Steam Controller is today.

One thing Nintendo genuinely does extremely well is ensure that their digital Switch games come in at manageable download sizes. When we have 32K monitors and they have better resolution than what the human eye can see, maybe they'll stop increasing texture sizes.
