@CosmaruCiorilor I actually like what Shield Hero did because the demihumans also have racial supremacist nations and there isn’t really any ideological animosity between Melromarc and them over this, it’s basically only racial. Siltvelt and Shieldfreeden also are more Germanic / Nordic standin nations than niggers and Melromarc is very much Mediterranean. Their main religion is even just isekai catholicism while the demihumans only worship the shield.

@CosmaruCiorilor @Vsolid idk, in the case of the Shield Hero anime, being able to grow into adulthood by leveling up near instantly seems to be something that could be really powerful and something that could be interesting to look into if they were more serious about it.It would also be a good reason for humans to never mix with demihumans, but there's no exploration of that either.

@lichelordgodfrey @CosmaruCiorilor Yea they just kind of gloss over it and all the other humans are surprised Naofumi doesn’t know that’s how it works. Demihumans also age normally over time. From what I’ve read of the manga and seen in the anime adaptation they don’t explore that much at all. Maybe at a later arc I guess.

For one, the Queen didn’t give a shit about the king or princess and actually said she wish she was actually raped. Their little escapade pretty much ruined any chance of the kingdom getting on good terms with the other nations. The only reason the king wasn’t killed was because he’s a war hero and the people like him iirc. Naofumi is also less of a noble moralfag. A scene I fucking hated was when they killed the fat nobleman slaver, in the manga Naofumi was 100% on board with killing his ass. In the anime he’s all rEvEnGe iS bAD which is the exact opposite of what Shield Hero is about lol

@lichelordgodfrey @Vsolid @CosmaruCiorilor I see vsolid already linked you to the Manga, now i do not know of any good unofficial translations of the light novel (I’ve looked) so you would just have to buy it. Now it is 100% worth it imo since the LN is so different from the anime it’s nuts. I like the anime but they change some of Naofumi’s characterization for the worse and the Queen is a way better character. For an example of how different it is, the worst episode of the anime (episode where raphtalia faces her old slave owner) is probably one of the best in terms for her characterization in the LN (and manga) Tl;dr you have to buy the official translation and it’s worth it

This is a problem for me, because the entire thing feels stilted. That is the "official" translation, I only ever bought volume 1 and didn't progress beyond that.I guess my only option is to learn Japanese, then.

It was silly when Lord Katsuhito asked Tenchi if he saw a "leprechaun" in the dub of Tenchi Universe (rather than saying he looked as if he had been tricked by a fox, an unfamiliar idiom to westerners), it's another to start inserting annoying current (and quickly stale) politics, fag shit, etc, when that isn't in it and it isn't even an honest attempt at localization.

The Nagatoro sub shit recently really pissed me off specifically. I still do think you should at least try to read Shield Hero because from when I read it I do not think it has any of that shit in it. Also Overlord could just have bad writing.
