@timr I’m unsophisticated and love anything Haley Mills and the Sound of Music. Just entertain me. Last of the Mohicans I thought a perfect movie. The first movie to shock me was David and Lisa. I just watched 2020 Bridgerton series on my daughters Netflix. The love scenes were shocking. Didn’t need to be so explicit. Why does Hollywood do that?

@KodiakIsland when I first retired, I discovered "the Romance Novel." They were entertaining, and very easy to read while on my stairmaster. I could read and exercise at the same time, because they were "brain candy." I discovered Julia Quinn and her Bridgerton novels at that time. I lost a lot of weight reading those novels, but I have to admit, I liked the books way better than the series. Steamy, but only in my imagination. @timr

@wziminer @timr Agree 100%. I love that genre too. It’s is brain candy! Try Georgette Heyer who is the best! The Grand Sophy I’ve read many times it’s so tongue-in-cheek funny and Lady of Quality, Spring Muslem etc. I found her when I was in my 20’s and I’ve read even her mystery novels and her historical too. She’s a favorite.

@KodiakIsland I have read lots of her stuff. I loved Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series until she got too predictable and violent. One of my favorites is Mary Balogh... she never disappoints. I often read 5-7 books in a week, if I am in the mood, but love many genres. Books are my addiction, and I have owned 5 kindles and a nook because I was cluttering my house with hardcovers and paperbacks. I still buy hardcovers and paperbacks, but am more discerning now. @timr

@wziminer @timr Yes off the top of my head THE UNFINISHED CLUE, WHY SHOOT A BUTLER, A BLUNT INSTRUMENT etc. I love mysteries especially the breezy 30’s British mysteries!šŸ˜‚

@wziminer @KodiakIsland @timr Same!! There's a series I enjoyed reading when I was traveling by air several times a year. Author is Emily Giffin.I think the first one I read was 'Something Borrowed' ... fun, light reading.

@wziminer @KodiakIslandI liked Simon in Bridgeton but loved The Queen’s Gambit. I was looking for something mindless after January 20th and a friend recommended Bridgeton so I signed into my daughter’s Netflix acct. I’m now watching Outlander and I’m hooked. Just ordered the books. My bedroom windows are steaming up just writing about it! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜Ž @timr

@wziminer Outlander? I just finished the last episode of Season 5 last night but it took 2 weeks to get the courage to look at it. I fast-forwarded through the worst of it. The books are supposed to be beautifully written.@KodiakIsland @timr

@MaggieMoore Read the first 4 for certain. They are fabulous. Afterwards, they get (as I said) predictable. All toxic drama all the time. Perhaps the shows are better. But, no rape is too crazy. No horror is too much. And they are all predictable. Annoying, tbh. @KodiakIsland @timr

@wziminer @MaggieMoore @KodiakIsland @timr But you know what is fun? The travelogue series that ā€œJamieā€ and ā€œMalcolmā€ did for Showtime on Scotland. Food, kilts, whiskey and great scenery. Also great insults.

@wziminer Yes, I fast-forwarded through the rape scenes. No need to torture myself. And it does seem that some of the violence is gratuitous after the early shows. The show touches on 2 subjects that interest me - Scotland, as my grandfather was born and raised there and I have family there, and time travel. It doesn’t broaden knowledge of space-time fabric and other theories but I like the questions it triggers in my mind. @KodiakIsland @timr

@wziminer I have first two books of Outlander. I haven’t had a chance to read yet. Gonna have to break them out. I’ve watched the series twice now. The chemistry between the main characters is off the chart. They did a great job casting. @MaggieMoore @KodiakIsland @timr
