Coming out the real world again. Not only have I found that Starbucks requires an email to use the wifi but also seems to block ports.I had to connect to a VPN before I could SSH into my home server.This is a good use for the free account from ProtonVPN.

@joeo10 They're a groovy company but I just don't have a need for their full version. The free version is more than enough for what I need.

@art I prefer to run my own services, because you get a deeper understanding how things work and you have full control. I do not trust all these VPN providers. Often people got a wrong understanding of VPN and that's why VPN providers are so popular. @art have a look at simplelogin.io for that kind of situation, rather useful to hide your real email address on top of using a VPN for public wifi
