@abloo @enigmatico literally that. Anything older than 8th gen intel cannot run windows 11. And it is only for release builds. Insider builds can run just fine.

@GNUxeava @abloo I didnt know about that. I was talking about reauiring a TPM with SecureBot enabled and also the rootkit in their drivers. If they start banning CPUs just because then the more reason.

@absturztaube @GNUxeava @abloo Sounds to me like they want OEM manufracturers to enable SecureBoot on all their products so that people cant make changes in their hardware or even the software (Like installing Linux or something). Also I think Intel motherboards were ditching Legacy mode too.So basically you will be stuck with a system with a specific hardware configuration and operating system.

@enigmatico @GNUxeava @abloo i'm not that familiar with who secure boot works in detail. but in concept, if you change your hardware you'd have to reestablish the trust chain. i don't think secure boot will look you out on changing hardware. that would be stupid af

@absturztaube @GNUxeava @abloo The whole purpose of it is to "avoid tampering with your computer". In fact, laptops usually has it enabled by default. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it.

@enigmatico @GNUxeava @abloo again, if you change the hardware (not tampering) you have to recreate the trust chain so it doesn't exclude changing hardware.

@enigmatico @GNUxeava @abloo if your hardware gets tampered with, its more likely that the attacker has not access to the keys needed to recreate the trust chain, while you as the user and owner of the pc have. at least thats how i understood it

@enigmatico @abloo @absturztaube @GNUxeava This is exactly why you should never believe there’s a “new” Microsoft, that they’ve “reinvented themselves”, or anything like that. Being friendly with open source is a ruse to get your trust. “You don’t need to install Linux on your computer, you can just use WSL!” Good old embrace, extend, extinguish. This is nothing new.
