@BlinkRape Disk space is not the same as active memory usage, when you scale stuff up in large quantity the footprint matters a lot. Also the small footprint stuff is a strength of the entire ecosystem, not just Linux, the portability of programs because they're so narrow in scope has allowed it to be used on Windows and MacOS, if you actually looked into the stuff people use on Windows and MacOS you'll see a lot of "Linux" projects such like ffmpeg.

@BlinkRape Outside of video games there has been very few tools I've used that are not cross-platform. Winamp being probably the most notable, though I'm sure I could probably run that via WINE if I want to.

@BlinkRape You missed the most important point in Linux and Open Source in general: Almost all Open Source developer simply do not care about you or other "external forces" like money or customers. Making all users happy is not the primary goal, and that's intended. If this is a problem for you, go buy an Apple product -- OR build /your/ dream tool yourself.
