Decided to try #Minetest today. I like how punching my birthday in starts me out in a snowy forest, since that's my favorite biome in #Minecraft.There are a lot of little touches I like, like snow falling off of tree branches rather than evaporating instantly and fallen logs in the forests. I'm not sure it's a viable replacement, though. Little things about it fail, like the totally fucked economy.I did see there are other game modes available, though. Maybe I'll check those out.#gaming

@swashberry Definitely try them out, or at least try some mods! The default preinstalled game is designed to be modded, and so is intentionally left simple.Take a look at ContentDB for the available games and mods. It's the website behind the in-menu content installer feature: https://content.minetest.net/

@rubenwardyI did see some of the games people have published for Minetest, and a few of them did pique my interest. Once I'm all settled today I intend to give MineClone 2 a shot, since it's a bit closer to what Minetest was sold to me as: A viable libre alternative to Minecraft.Thanks for linking me this additional resource. I'll probably flip through a bunch of those when I have time.

@swashberry It's been a minute since I tried Minetest, but now that you mention it, I might give it another go. There are some mods for farming and mobs that look like they could make it a pretty rich experience.

@flavonolI'm not gonna lie, I came into it expecting a Minecraft clone, and I did end up downloading MineClone 2, but now that I'm just playing around with it I think I just like having the base Minetest engine and being able to futz around with it. I'm basically making my own experience, which is pretty cool.

@swashberryI used to play a lot of Minetest. My mansion burnt down, and I gave my op gear to my friends on the server before I left.Despite loving FOSS I mostly play Minecarft now because it just hits different.
