Some TRAs define woman and female to mean someone who is "presumed" to be of the reproductive sex class. Well guess what - we DON'T presume you are women. We presume you are men, because you are. By your own definition that makes you men. How many people must "presume" TWAW to make it so? Does it only require a single presumption - your own? How many people have to know what sex is to make it false?

@ninapaley I am always chilled to the bone by Professor Lavery's pronouncements. He frightens me. His position relative to femaleness is one of resentment of boundaries and what he views as a series of unbearable impositions on his power to define reality. It's a constant "let me in, let me in, let me in, let me in, you have no right to refuse me" couched in academic terms, peppered with outbursts of anger when he finds resistance. He acts so...male. And it frightens me that people are willing to pretend not to see this.

@kathleenbee @ninapaley Oh, I'm VERY familliar with his "family situation" and I've posted about it before. The one who identifies as a man is my former beloved Mallory Ortberg-- a straight up fucking lesbian writer. The other woman in the equation is a new addition, and I suspect she's there so that Mallory can have an actual sex life. Lavery has only gotten more and more physically repulsive as his transition progresses-- he was not unattractive when he was male-presenting, but the estrogen is turning him into a strange pale lumpy hulk with limp, stringy hair like my schizophrenic aunt's when she was in the hospital. He more closely resembles a large white fungus than a woman. Mallory (now Danny) has her own problems, and comes from an extremely toxic environment re: a religious pedophile father and possibly brother as well. I believe this partially explains the fungus-man with rapey opinions. She was always very good at anticipating the zeitgeist and getting out ahead of trendy woke movements, and I also believe this led her down the gender cul-de-sac she live sin now. I have interpreted the addition of the "cis" lesbian in their relationship as a positive sign, and still hold out hope for Mallory's escape-- however, it's just as likely that he just wants some feminine pussy and has pushed Mallory into this now that she is a "man" and no longer fits into the narrative of sexualized conquering that clearly motivates him.

@harpyharpyharpy @ninapaley I also hold out hope for Mallory escaping. She's done it once, from a previous toxic household organized around a patriarchal ideology. She can do it again (even if it is this previous experience that probably, paradoxically, led her down the primrose path to this new one).Like you I thought her writing at the Toast was evidence of a mind working at twice the speed of ordinary minds. Lavery's ... not so much. If nothing else she is going to get bored of the level of conversation he's able to sustain.

@Ismat @harpyharpyharpy @ninapaley This is horrifying. I used to listen to Dear Prudence, but stopped when Grace suddenly started making an appearance and every question seemed to be about not kink shaming and how everyone was transphobic.I feel really sad looking at Daniel’s old pictures though.
