Oh man, the Open Street Maps mobile app is pretty poor. It's convinced I'm 10 miles away at a camp site for some reason. The online website is pretty okay though.

@ChrisWere i use navmii, which uses openstreetmap. The search for stuff sucks, though, so I ALSO use what3words to look stuff up, then use the w3w address to search in navmii and then navigate. :(

@ChrisWere do you mean OsmAnd+ ? I tried using it for navigation while driving on vacation last year. The synthesized voice was almost impossible to understand and it kept announcing nonexistent crosswalks which it pronounced as "crass-wahl-kis". After a couple of miles, I switched it off. But put yourself in the shoes of a beleaguered journalist or activist in an unfriendly country and maybe it is better than nothing?

@ChrisWere osmand ? There is no "open street maps app" just apps that use the osm data...https://organicmaps.app/ is another option.

Yeah 🙁 Sadly it's Apple Maps or Google Maps because of the insufficient quality of that 🙁.

@ChrisWere is there an official open street maps app?I can recommend osmand. Been using it for years. Not only for navigation while cycling, but also while hiking(has hiking routes feature build in) and while kayaking. Never really had any issues with accuracy on GPS.

@draisinen_dieter Osmand was the one that was giving me problems.I coudn't work it out in the end, so I installed the OSM progressive web app. It's good enough for most of my uses.

OSMand seems to be behaving itself now. I'm gonna run with it for a while. If it gives me issues, I can pop open another map in a browser.

@ChrisWere I have used OSMand for years at this point. Has worked fine most of the time, but it helps if you download the map of the area you are in.
