       @vidak just curious, what's wrong with rust? I'm learning it and the only thing that I'm finding that's wrong with it is that it's too new for some toolkits, like gui toolkits or AI toolkits

       @robots i really need to sit down and explain the issues i have with it—but the TL/DR is:i think it’s largely a fadrust doesn’t actually do anything else that other (better) systems languages have been doing for decades. rust evangelists do this weird thing where they act like rust is the only language that does XYZ, and the entire prehistory of computing doesn’t get a look-inanecdotally, i have been following a few rust projects and i have been very dismayed at how much the language gets in your way, and your shit will just crash and have undefined statei am a Lisp hermit, i prefer discovered languages to invented onesrust comes from Mozilla, an internet and web browser company; i also wanna nuke the web—it has failedI say this with all due respect—i don’t think you can’t master rust, or make it do cool things, but its community seems to have a weird reality distortion field that agitates me

This only comes at the cost of being restricted by the compiler.

       @vidak AFAIK it’s just for some drivers for now but I find rust a nice language, like a cool mix of C++ without the hassle and Haskell without a PHD. I agree it might not be stable enough for a kernel though.Rust evangelism is something, the language another as always with those « fights » :)
