https://twitter.com/chhopsky/status/1399242073891491842 Bullshit. Everyone knows Youtubers are often shills themselves and are hardly infallible. It's just that Youtubers are usually at least somewhat entertaining when spouting their bullshit.

@ArdanianRight youtubers *used* to be counted on to at least be authentic...you were peering into some guy's webcam or whatever. Now the truth is...sorta there but it's buried under a mountain of M5M lies

@ArdanianRight You have to entertain people before you tell them what to think. It's why traditional news sources are dying like terminal cancer patients.

@jeffcliff @ArdanianRight It was always biased. It's just that now, companies have learned to capitalize on the now public figures' biases--or create them by tossing some cash around. With all the "Term and Conditions", people forget that the big tech corporations can do whatever the fuck they want when you use their site, and that their main incentive is money. That's why decentralization needs to be the future of the internet.

@KMemzy @ArdanianRight ...legally yes, they can do whatever they wantbut the thing about youtube is...they have 2 *billion* users. This makes it roughly proportional to islam in terms of the sheer mass of humanity that is involved with it.Most muslims are peaceful, law abiding, don't rock the boat types. But with 1.9 billion of them around...there's still enough of them that will strap explosives onto them and blow themselves up or whatever for jihad that the US military had to get involved circa 2001 to invade 2 countries. If Youtube's userbase got sufficiently polarized you could see entire cities burned to the ground, and executives, developers and PR flaks dismembered publicly. Entire regional ethnic groups exterminated for supporting youtube. 2 billion is a LOT of people, all you need to do is whip them up. You could do *way better* than islam's mostly passive masses. When Israel was attacked in the yom kippur war, a significant portion of everyone involved rushed to their nation's defence. People were organized. We could learn a lot from how well Israel repelled their invaders.

@KMemzy @ArdanianRight ie 'legally' is relevant only so far. Youtube is playing with the kind of fire that Pope Leo X played with - you can rule a billion people with an iron fist, but it takes one man to start a revolution against you and everything you stand for.

@jeffcliff @ArdanianRight There are loyalists for every revolution, I assure you. Time and time again, convenience persists where morality fails. Sure, people may cry when their favorite creator gets "demonetized", but who cares at the end of the day? YouTube's brand is what they sell now, not the service. The service may be inadequate compared to its competitors, and even unjust. But only governments take down monopolies.

@KMemzy @ArdanianRight economics textbooks do not know that you can whip up 2 billion people into an online army only because it has never been done before. Maybe this generation won't be the one that'll do it - the catholic church lasted a long time before the 95 theses. At least it understood, then, that little revolts can spawn bigger revolutions. And sure, governments can come from revolutionary central committes of winning factions. But...what caused the reformation wasn't really a government. It was one man, shitposting on a church door. There will be loyalists, of course. But we have only just begun watching how people can organize themselves, given an injustice to rectify. And NSA/Alphabet youtube's days are numbered if they continue on the path they are on.
