For those using Windows, did you leave enable or disable the News and Interests taskbar section?

@brandon Disabled. I already have RSS feeds to keep up with what I want to see. I don't need MSN news.

@brandon I was really excited about it back when it was announced, but ever since I both got disappointed in Microsoft and found no value in going back to Google, I said "screw it".This is one of the first things that is going to disappear from my Windows installation, hopefully including the entirety of it in some future.

@brandon @huy_ngo Not exactly. It's part of an optional but soon to be mandatory complementary update. Even if you get it, depending on where you live, it might take a loooooong while to wait for it to be enabled.

@brandon If I use Edge, I leave it enabled. If I use any other browser, I disable that.

@tulpa This is something built into Windows, I assume you mean to say that it's use of Edge that dictates the content in this News and Interests feed?

@bumbervevo That's exactly what I was thinking 🤔 I was like "why on earth are you just putting this here without telling me how to disable it?"

@brandon It's the fact that the News and Interests always opens anything you click in Edge, ignoring your preferred browser setting.

@tulpa ew...what the fuck. Yeah, the bing shit in the start menu does that. Like, I'm glad that Edge is getting some traction and I think that MS is doing some good stuff with it, but forcing folks to use it ain't the right attitude

@brandon @tulpa There's a few different tools that will register themselves for the microsoft-edge: URI scheme and send it back to the real default browser.

@brandon @tulpa You set the default browser to Firefox and then you install a tool that becomes the default handler for microsoft-edge: (replacing the real Edge). Then whenever something tries to launch a microsoft-edge URI, the tool will extract the real URI and launch that instead, thus invoking the real default browser. Firefox won't handle microsoft-edge:, so you need a purpose-built program. The one I've used is called EdgeDeflector.

@alexbuzzbee @tulpa FINALLY, I was looking for something like this, it's been killing me. To be able to search using the start menu is something I've wanted to be able to use for a while. Plus the Bing to Google addon, I'm (mostly) set :)
