ThreadMy brother sold the house I'm currently living in.The new owner won't move in until September, but she's doing EXACTLY what all people do in this part of the state:As soon as they buy a house, they cut down all the trees. As of today, the yard has no shade whatsoever, and it's already 30 degrees hotter. The air conditioner has no impact.AND.

The glaring sunlight is reflecting off this house INTO the house that I'm going to inhabit. So now I'm going to have to plant trees on the side of my house to block the light and heat.I think these people do this in order to show their mastery over nature. This house may as well be an oven surrounded by searchlights.I was trying to figure out what to do with my new house.Today I decided to plant MORE foliage.

People here love lawns and no shade.I'm going to take out the grass, put in mulch and pavers, and plant a couple trees to add more shade.I just can't believe how ugly the house became in one day.Inside and out. I feel like a lab rat under surgical lamps.BUT.You may have been wondering about that ransomware group called Darkwing.Guess what happened to them? They got tortured and killed, and I think it's GREAT. They're the ones who hit the pipeline.

Oops.DarkSide, not Darkwing.DarkSide is Russian, so this this is Deir Ezzor, Syria, all over again. The Russians said that their troops in Syria were mercenaries working for the Wagner Group, not Russian soldiers. So On February 7, 2018, we inflicted 100 percent casualties on a 600-man Mobile Detachment Combat Group. And the Russians withdrew their combat troops from Syria.See this?https://www.npr.org/2021/06/08/1004223000/how-a-new-team-of-feds-hacked-the-hackers-and-got-colonial-pipelines-bitcoin-bac

I'll tell you how they got the key.It wasn't the FBI.SOMEONE tied some Russians to chairs and smashed their toes with hammers one by one until they disclosed the key.First DarkSide announced that they were retiring, and then the US recovered the ransom.Deir Ezzor, kids. I'm telling you.It was almost certainly our Gulf Arab allies. They can infiltrate anywhere and exfiltrate just as easily. And they don't play by any rules but their own.I approve.

@ThomasWic I've lost most of the trees in my yard to hurricanes. My parents planted non-native trees that grew rapidly, but didn't have the root systems to withstand storms. Others were either too close to the house or got to be too large. All that's left is a carrotwood.

@ThomasWic Excellent news about the hackers. Glad you are planting trees.. A man from Egypt moved next to my sister years ago. He took down every tree on his property and then rang her bell to ask her if she would remove trees on her property that he thought might fall on his house. He was most worried about her favorite London Plane. She'd had a tree surgeon in to look at it once and he exclaimed "This guy saw George Washington cross the Delaware." Trees still stand. The neighbor moved.

@ThomasWic I lived in a growing county in the southern part of MD. When we first moved there, we basically had a Sears Outlet and a few strip clubs. The county sold out & began building commercial buildings & strip malls non-stop, removing every tree from the area. By the time we moved, it was never dark because of all the neon signs and lights. It was sad to see firsthand what can happen to a beautiful rural area.

@ThomasWic The first house I bought, after the first year of raking up maple leaves from the ground and gutters, I ended up taking down nearly every tree; however, this was not in the desert like you are in.I planted a very large garden over time. When I sold, the new owner, over time, removed nearly every tree and all the garden areas. I don't think she took out the smoke tree on the parkway. Nevertheless, a former neighbor (a clerk from a grocery store) thought that was just hilarious.

He bought houses in San Fernando valley, Simi valley, Palmdale and Lancaster, CA. The condition of the house was the main particular. If it wasn't to bad we could fix it. The roof, electrical, plumbing, floors, cabinets and painting we could cover. But the foliage was of major importance. Big trees and hedges were a major plus.

I have watched properly planted 4ft Azaleas become an impenetrable wall/fenve 10ft tall in two rainy years. Shade trees one should pick for cleanliness/upkeep. Depends on how much you wish to be the yard guy. Anything that works & I don't have to work it much works. But here anything grows.

@ThomasWic I am a fan of trees in the right setting . I have a neighbor that butts up to my backyard. She has a row of trees on her property line that all grow over my backyard and make it an absolute mess with leaves. I cannot keep my pool cage clean or grass to grow because of all the shade. That means wind makes my pool deck constantly dirty because there is dirt in my backyard rather than grass. Roots are also growing all through my area and can cause problem for my pool.
