Alpine Linux broke on my laptop, so I'm thinking of switching distros.I really have no clue anymore what I would like. About every single distro there's a criterium that makes me not wanna use it.Perhaps I will switch back to gentoo? o_o

@jbauer And for FreeBSD it's that it's confusing and for OpenBSD is that it's slow and games and audio rarely work. Also battery efficiency...I feel like there's nothing that works 100% fore me :c

@laggard Those OpenBSD things I have solved by not caring :D I play games on Windows (had to anyways for most of them), audio hasn't been a problem for me, and performance is acceptable. Battery efficiency too, for my needs. Also yeah, FreeBSD is kinda confusing :/I wonder if DragonflyBSD is in a daily-driveable state?

@jbauer OpenBSD is great for server use. But yea, I might check if my laptop hardware even works with OpenBSD, it's kinda new.The thing is, I *like* being able to execute stuff that is at least somewhat catered to linux. I like things working, not always needing to either give up because it doesn't run on non-linux or try to find some workarounds (true at least for non-packaged things)Also btw, DragonFlyBSD, last time I used it, I had to use a PS/2 mouse because the USB mouse driver was messed up :D

@laggard@doesnt.undo.it it's the experimental psychology of operating systems. if console text editors and micro-dosing magic mushrooms seems like a winning combo, it's a prime choice.as for compatibility, if anything doesn't work i assure you there's a relevant mailing list and a developer willing to help dig in to it :3i have never once locked up the kernel and believe me i've tried. even when doing insane stuff like editing /dev/kmem in a console text editor (no comment on the mushrooms..)

@icedquinn @purple Void seems okay, but I'm vary of it due to the leadership kerfuffle they had not long ago.

@laggard@doesnt.undo.it unmaintained stuff gets culled like with any other major project. when it comes to old stuff they only mess around with stuff that has serious hobbyist interest, and it in no way impacts more mainstream support.after all it's hobbyists doing the support.

@laggard@doesnt.undo.it should work just fine. check dmesg to make sure audio is detected before you get too far (probably too late heh)

@laggard@doesnt.undo.it k the only thing to keep in mind is that you'll need to update pkgsrc before using it and that is nontrivialwhich is why i said "maybe" :)

@purple oookay, it's installed...first thing: Xorg only sees 1024x768 for my display. My laptop has a Ryzen CPU, and thus it should use amdgpu, right?
