I'm going from Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green era and yes, Rumours, mind you) to Liturgy to Nico to Scott Walker (Tilt +) to Comus to Eagles to Edward Elgar to Giacinto Scelsi to Fear Factory to Mayhem to whatever. And back. No big wonder I'm writing such messy code. :ablobcatreach:

@sakkara from your list, I only listen to Mayhem. Their early music is great. It may be an unpopular opinion but Black Metal helps me to concentrate (although I don't code yet, I only know a bit of shell script)

@werwolf I listen to a lot of (weird) stuff, but BM (early bands and some recent "hipster BM" mostly) is a staple in my playlist because what you say, the wall of shrieks and double bass keep me sharp and focused. Hopefully. :) And I wouldn't call what I do "coding"; it's bug deployment mostly. XD

@symmetrizer @werwolf Early Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum & Ulver are easy picks for me. I dig some of the later material by Mayhem and Ulver, anyway. :)

@sakkara @werwolf sure thing! that's all good stuff. besides from burzum I've never liked his stuff and fuck varg vikernes.but darkthrone! one of my favorite bands. I love everything they put out so far. Ulver is wonderful as well but I have to admit I like their later more experimental stuff a lot more than their more pure bm stuff.

@symmetrizer @werwolf I despise the Count, but I really love his (early) recordings. This happens. ;)I can listen Transilvanian Hunger (for example) non stop, I find it pretty relaxing, don't ask me why. It's so raw and... Nice? XDAnd Ulver is like a whole bunch of bands put into the same moniker. I adore their early BM albums, but after that every album has been a surprise. I prefer some albums (William Blake, the zodiac...) more than others, but they're never dull IMHO. <3

@sakkara @symmetrizer I love Filosofem, the album is great, even if Varg is a fucking Nazi.I listen to grindcore, slam metal and all that stuff. But my favorites tend to be early scandinavian black and death metal bands

@werwolf @symmetrizer I'm thinking now that in my list of "early scandinavian black" there was a very important one apparently missing, Emperor. I don't know why, but I don't really like them. But I love Peccatum, from Emperor's Isahn, so whatever. ;)Talking about grindcore... I've attended very few live concerts so far, but a couple of years ago maybe I saw Napalm Death (long story) doing their thing. I got stoned/drunk blind and didn't really put much attention TBH, but it was OK I guess. XD

@sakkara @werwolf been away from the 'scene' for a while, what's considered hipster BM these days?

@ttntm @werwolf Check (disclaimer: don't cite me on this! XD) Liturgy, Wolves in the Throne Room, Deafheaven, Myrkur... If there's no corpse paint and not always double bass, wall of strings and/or satanic/pagan imaginery, there's a chance any BM act may be called "hipster" by some TRVE Black Metaller. ;)

@sakkara @werwolf cool, thanks. I remember WITTR but it wasn't really for me; might check out the other names on the list 😉. AFAIR, the last BM record I bought was MGLA's 'With Hearts Toward None' - a true beast of an album that I can't recommend enough. I'm actually surprised it still plays without skipping after the years of abuse it's been through.

@ttntm @sakkara I love mgla, they've made one of my favorite black metal albums of all times, Groza
