I need Dude Named Ben IT help!I have an internal HDD I planned to put into my PC. First, I attached it via a dock I have, formatted it, and copied a bunch of data over to it. At some point over the next few weeks (I wasn't paying attention when), the dock stopped working and I couldn't see the drive in my Windows Explorer. So I opened up the PC tonight and stuck the drive inside. My PC can't access it - I can SEE it in Disk Manager and in BIOS and Device Manager, but I can't touch it.

@SirDaddyO You could build a live USB of Ubuntu and boot to that and see if that live Ubuntu Linux distro can see and read your hard drive if it can you could manage to do something about getting your data off of there before it finally goes kaput

When I look at properties on the drive in Device Manager it says "This device is working properly" but under events it says "Device was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match."I've tried updating the driving, switching SATA cables, multiple reboots, and cussing a blue streak, but none of it seems to help.I see the drive in Disk Management, but all options (like initialize or format) are entirely greyed out.I downloaded the SeaGate tool, and several tests run on the drive were good.

So did the drive just shit the bed? Can anyone recommend a next step, or at least a good data recovery tool?

@SirDaddyO you can also try to run a scan with a tool from Steve Gibson at Grc. Com.It fixed a couple of drives back in the day.

@realhippo @noodlegun99 FYI - I did buy SpinRite 6.0, but I can't use it. It doesn't work on Windows 10 Hard Drives over 2 TB. SpinRite 6.1 is supposed to address this issue, but I'm not sure when it will be released (at least it's a free upgrade to 6.0 users).

@SirDaddyO @noodlegun99 does it not run at all or can it scan the first 2tb?

@realhippo @noodlegun99 I don't know - I didn't try. It said in big red letters to not run SpinRite, which is when I went back to the website to see what was going on. It has to do with BIOS vs. UEFI, and, after more reading, it's actually not until SpinRite 7.0 that he plans to have the program fully switched over to handle UEFI.I think I'm about at the end of my quest to try to salvage data off this drive. Blah.
