@golfyado I don't think so. It's the only big independent browser out there. Everything else is using Google's blink, even Safari and Edge. I don't think that a Google's web monopoly would benefit anyone, so Firefox is right now the only option we have to fight against Google.I think that Firefox (or Gecko) will eventually live longer than Chrome. It happened with IE and it'll happen again. Fee software will never die. You can always fork it. Proprietary software die.

@werwolf @golfyado I agree with that your saying. Firefox is the last place where the web is not controlled by google. If some change happens to chrome unless someone makes another engine we only have Firefox. That is why free software is better. Nothing ever dies if people like it and want it to survive. I know of some browsers that have its own engine like lynx and w3m but those are text only browsers.

@joeligj12 (Sorry if the translation was bad, I don't know much English), I think that in the first place mozilla, being focused on privacy and all that, did a bad thing by making that contract with google but just as our colleague said, an open source software never Dies!

@jason123santa @werwolf It is not the only one, there are others like: seamonkey pale moon midori falkon etc ... but the problem is that google monopolizes almost the entire market and people think that google is the internet or stupid things of the same style

@golfyado @jason123santa SeaMonkey depends on Firefox's Gecko, so it isn't independent. Pale Moon is a fork of an old version of Firefox with slow development. Midori is using WebKit so it's depends on Apple and on Google, since WebKit uses Google's blink.Falkon is using QtWebEngine, which is a wrapper from Chromium. So at the end you only have Firefox and Firefox based browsers

@werwolf @golfyado Yeah those browsers are basically using chromium or firefox. Midori uses Electron now instead of WebKit.I think Dillo and NetSurf (and some other text based browsers like lynx) have there own engine but none can replace Firefox or Chromium.

@golfyado @jason123santa otter browser is using QtWebEngine and WebKit (source: Wikipedia) so it depends on Chromium and on Apple.Gemini is a whole different protocol, so they don't depend on Google. But you can't browse the WWW with a Gemini browser, so it may not apply. The only two web engines right now are Mozilla's Gecko and Google's blink. So the choice at the end is between a browser based on Firefox or a browser using Google's engine

@werwolf @golfyado I know the Lynx browser has gopher and WWW but its just a text based browser. The browsers that can be used as your main browser are mostly becoming google or Firefox.

@golfyado @jason123santa Basilisk is Pale Moon development version. They both use Goanna, which is a Mozilla's Gecko fork. I guess that since they don't take Gecko's code anymore they could be considered independent but development is slow (since the development team isn't near as big as Google's or Mozilla's)

@golfyado @werwolf I am going to say there are no other browsers that use there own engine besides some really basic ones that are mostly only text based. Basilik uses a fork of the Gecko engine.

@werwolf @golfyado Yeah I think we have come to the conclusion that your daily driver browsers are going to be Firefox and Chromium based. The others are mostly for basic text only websites.
