Glory to the Proton gods, i made Yakuza 5 finally work with some help! :kiryupoints:This is a rather long post briefly explaining how to do, please read up on it yourself for more in-depth information. The issue at hand, is that the game is unable to launch past the splash-screens before the intro. So you need to do the following to make the Yakuza 5 Remaster start on Linux with Proton.Download the Media Foundation workaround from this github repo: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-installCd into the repo, and do the following:PROTON=/path/to/proton/ WINEPREFIX=/path/to/steam/game/id/pfx ./mf-install.sh -protonFor example, i run Arch and have steam installed in my home directory, and the steam library in a separate “game” directory. So the command would look something like this:PROTON=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ 6.3/ WINEPREFIX=~/Games/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1105510/pfx ./mf-install.sh -protonIf the output contains any “removed” command that removes symlinks, please re-run the script.Example: removed ‘/home//Games/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1105510/pfx/drive_c/windows/syswow64/mf.dll’Now the game should run with the latest Proton 6.3 as expected. There are still a few caveats with the game that i will list below. 1) Cutscenes sometimes are using the wrong audio, to short audio, or skip before the cutscene is done. The only way to “mitigate” this is to skip cutscenes and watch them on YouTube.2) You need to re-run the script each time proton updates, since it overrides the script.3) Sometimes you can get odd white blocks as an artifact on the screen. Unable to recreate this with the latest proton. And lastly, the restoration mods and uncut music mods work as intended since they don’t touch any of the proton stuff. So install them as you would normally. That’s all folks, i hope you enjoy Yakuza 5 as much as i do. And stay cool :kuze:

@solidsanek @xian or you could try using Proton-GE which should have working alternative to mf-install (which is btw sorta illegal)

@solidsanek hopefully they have solved those issues by then! I also heard it works if Yakuza 3 and 4 doesn’t start. :majimapeek:

@solidsanek @xian you could avoid doing all of it manually if you used protontricks. I'm not sure if you're familiar with winetricks but it's basically the same for proton.

@hj @solidsanek I tried proton-GE beforehand and it didn’t work. How would it be illegal? :ng_aoba_confused:

@xian @solidsanek as far as I understand, mf-install (and mf-install-cab) pretty much copies windows files, which is strictly speaking not allowed by microsoft's copyrights (rights on distribution i guess), but I might be wrong.Proton-GE, more specifically Proton-GE-MF (not sure if it's in mainline ge or not) re-implements missing Media Foundation functional using native codecs. Some of it is in original proton but not fully, it just displays test pattern now.

@hj @solidsanek sounds like a greyzone. But it makes sense. I’ll be more careful with it!

@xian @solidsanek i think that as a user it's nothing to worry about. It could be that microsoft's library distribution is either through installer or windows update package, anything else is illegal. It's more of valve or mf-install folks would be in trouble, not user.
