       @techlore I use Session as my main messaging app since Dec'20. It's not perfect but I love it. I even installed it on the fire tablets of my children.        @techlore XMPP has been working out well for me. I have all my friends and family on it, mostly thanks to Quicksy, and clients have come a long way these past few years. It's decentralized and E2EE thanks to OMEMO and DTLS-SRTP. I could see metadata being a bit of a concern on XMPP, but you can self-host or sign up for one of the many servers in Germany. It also works fine over Tor, except for calling.
