       I need a password manager for Linux CLI and android, with syncing. What are folks recommending?Firefox integration (on gnome and on android) would be nice but not critical.I'm currently using KeepassDX on Android for local storage, I'll explore what sync and CLI options that gives me (but I'm not hooked on it, would happily switch.)Boosts appreciated!

       @eqe A flatfile encrypted with GPG and edited via vim.There are hacks for associating, e.g., an '.asc' file extension with an encrypted file, and handling that sanely in vim (no temporary buffers, etc.).

       @dredmorbius Curiously, this is almost exactly the way `pass` is implemented in my experience, except it manages the keyring for you and even has git integration features.@eqe

       @alcinnz @eqe yes, bitwarden has a cli, a very good android app, and firefox integration. Been a happy user for quite some time. If you want to go more barebones, have a look at https://passwordstore.orgVery flexible, but harder to make work across devices (syncing through git, need some gpg integration on your phone,..)

       @woozong @alcinnz @eqe I was going to do the same suggestions.I use pass (passwordstore.org) and it works great with a GPG key on a Yubikey across several Linux  computers and an Android phone (with got as a backend).But I'm setting up bitwarden for my partner :-)

       @seasharp This comes down to a "build vs. buy" decision, terminology that applies even where "buy" is "use freelly available tool".The advantage of the vim + GPGP approach (and other editors can be substituted, with varying degrees of security) is that the underlying toolchain is very stable and likely to remain extant.  I've been using technology long enouch (35+ years on Unix / Linux) to see a lot of stuff become unavailable.(Interestingly, both my original Unix platform (BSD) and editor (vi) continue to be available, either directly or through direct successors.  Many other alternatives, mostly non-Unix and/or proprietary, are not.)My password management tool is one that needs to be extant for decades@eqe

       @dredmorbius Certainly, and I think `pass` interoperates with both your editor of choice and gpg software in such a way that if it were ever to disappear the underlying toolchain is entirely undisturbed - still extant as ever.@eqe

       @dredmorbius @seasharp @eqe I used to keep my passphrases in a GPG encrypted file. Then I found an openssl plugin for vim and added a bash alias to pass.aesa. On android I use KeePassDroid, so keepass2 on linux made sense. The important part is backup, which I do NOT do.. because it is done for me by a script, to a few encrypted backup sites. (As long as it is properly encrypted you can even use the "free" cloud file share platforms.)
