@Ari yeah. I thought Pride was supposed to be about... instilling pride? Not about waking in public. My kids are teens, and recently out, and I would love to see them settled in a safe, supportive community where being gay is not just tolerated but celebrated. But, I'm not OK with them hanging out with exhibitionist perverts who are deliberately trying to offend and shock passersby, just for the titillation.

@GrumpyOldNurse @Ari I think that is what is making me extra pissed at the guys who make these posts. Wasn’t the point of Pride for LGB to celebrate being themselves and show support? These guys just want to “shock the normies” and market it as some brave act. I see so often here and other places where LGB don’t even go anymore as it is no longer a celebratory and supportive event.

@Hollahollara Unfortunately males do depraved perverse shit like that in public at the Folsom Fair in san Francisco every year. I went once many years ago, when I was very naive and really had no clue what I was getting into. What I saw was a bunch of fat men over 50, either completely naked or wearing a jock, and I saw a completely nude man straight up leaning against a building and jaxking off as the crowd walked right by, and a ton of dude's just groping up all over each other. It was a protest march, a show of visibility and solidarity, in protest of the Stonewall raids in particular, but also against the constant police victimization of gays, raiding our bars, raiding bathhouses, taking people off to be beaten, taking people into custody at work, to make sure that whatever legal penalties people faced for being "found in a common bawdy house" they would most certainly lose their jobs. Nowadays, with "diversity" being so hip and cool, with the corporate world's discovery that gay men have lots of $$ to spend on product, city government's discovery that "parades" bring in big bucks, there is now all kinds of financing from corporations and government. Of course for their money they want a nice, family-friendly, happy, Disney-esque "parade".No.It's not a fucking corporate parade. It is not your local church-group picnic. It's not "Pride" it's "Gay Pride". It's an in-your-face celebration with its roots in protest, of ALL things queer: jockstraps, leather dykes, and especially sexuality, which is, after all, what defines us.It's not FOR children despite the coloured balloons. Take them somewhere else, somewhere more age-appropriate.

And, yes, I understand that being gay is a sexuality, so naturally, one should celebrate the sexual part of that, since that is the basis of the discrimination. I guess I'm disturbed by the commodification of it all, and the way that corporations have turned a natural sexual expression into a moneymaking venture. What I want for my kids is to not have them grow up thinking that they are flawed or less than because they are gay. I think they need a community that accepts and celebrates them. But, yeah, I'll not be taking them Pride. When they're adults, they can find their own way there, if they want.
