Imagine a DRM that prevents browsers to display content protected by it, unless the server has a license to display it, or the browser is authorized to display it.Like, for instance, images, GIFs, and stuff like that.So when you try to share something you just found, like post an image or something, your browser will display an image instead saying "This content cannot be displayed because you are not authorized to view it".

@absturztaube @Jain Yeah, that's what I was talking about in my early post. Somebody might figure that it would be better if instead of enforcing the use of filters in social media to prevent copyright infractions, we instead enforced DRM on the standard digital formats we use, and enforced browsers to endorse them instead of the standard formats we use.

@Jain @absturztaube afaik there was a requirement on the amount of users the platform has so I don't think fedi will ever need it, being decentralized. It was a terrible way to piss off the big American tech companies. But of course it was made by people who believes that the internet is just a bunch of big tech corpos.

@Jain It's not about where it is hosted, as long as you provide a service on the EU, you have to comply with it's regulations. No exceptions. Even if you're from India.

However, the consumption of media is excluded from this. :blobcatevil: This in turn means that we need to build a eu compatible upload proxy which can be hosted in a different country :ablobcatbongo:

@enigmatico i got a chronic phobia from this kind of stuff after I've read a dystopia book called "All Rights Reserved"it's a world where IP/copyright trolls got to rule itIn there everyone has a cuff-smart-sleeve thing on their arm that taxes them each time they say a word or do a gesture with IP (all of them). most families fall in poverty because of that and only the rich have free speechThere are also companies that generated any song there could be that could sound musical with an AI and copyrighted it.it's scary because it's somewhat realistic, in the way i can see humans be this evil(oop this got pretty long didn't it)
