@mur2501 @kranfahrer Using OpenIndiana on several storage servers with ZFS for NFS and SMB. Hosting about one PetaByte of data on those systems.I think Linux can do this job as well but only the recent versions. As I started doing this - 10 years ago - there was no option for ZFSonLinux...Ever tried to host over 500.000 files in one folder on NTFS on Windows and share it via SMB?Well Windows sucks^^

@lauteshirn I use Solus currently which is going amazing for me, though being a distro made from scratch it doesn't supports Debian or Ubuntu packages (Still it has a good number of packages in it's own repo) so I am thinking to maybe use ElementaryOS (though I don't like it's macOS interface)

@mur2501 @kranfahrer Basically it is not that different than smaller amount of data. With the difference that you have way more hardware...So you can do everything as it is on a smaller environment. The magic starts at the point you want to have a good performance. You need several tounsands of IOPS and so on.Than you need to do very heavy optimization on every peace of hard- and software. That's where ZFS and Solaris comes from...

@mur2501 Well, bleeding-edge was no real priority for me. Though it's nice to have. And Fedora ships - at least for me - with the nicest balance between bleeding-edge and stable. Fedora 34 with Pipewire and Wayland is working like a charm. The fact that the stuff is bleeding-edge is a only a nice-to-have. The thing I care about is reliability. And I swear 5 years of Distrohopping, and I have not found a single distro that stable. So for me, Fedora = non-plus-ultra <3

@mur2501 Oh that's brilliant. That's why I switched to Linux for the majority of things. I do have Windows on my main machine, mainly for gaming, but everything else is Linux. Keep at it though, learning the terminal and building from source etc becomes quite straight forward after a while. :3
