@redwhitebluedude It may indeed be his last term. But it ends in 2026. I agree that McConnell's statements about Trump in January were wrong. He went too far and he was insulting. But now McConnell is GOP Senate Leader, and there is no one better at working the Senate. This is vitally important. Trump's constant knocks against McConnell are not helpful.@EnjoyTheSearch @drawandstrike @DuaneCates

@timr @redwhitebluedude @EnjoyTheSearch @drawandstrike @DuaneCates McConnell and the Kentucky GOP just changed the state's vacancy rules in March, overriding the governor's veto. Now, a governor has to choose from a list of 3 provided from the party holding the seat.McConnell claims that he's serving the full term, but theoretically he can retire whenever he wants without fear of the Dems taking his seat.https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/politics/ky-general-assembly/2021/03/30/mitch-mcconnell-recommended-changes-kentuckys-senate-vacancy-rules/7056325002/

@timr @redwhitebluedude @EnjoyTheSearch @drawandstrike @DuaneCates Definitely.I will say though regarding Pence that while we don't want to see division in our ranks, Trump isn't wrong.Pence had the authority to take either action. But tonally these statements are more about disagreement, rather than retaliation against someone who slammed him publicly on the Senate floor - like McConnell did.I believe there's a lot more to Jan 6 than we know now, so I withhold judgement either way.

@DuaneCates @timr @MrHobbit @redwhitebluedude @EnjoyTheSearch @drawandstrike If three states or enough states with enough EC votes to flip it did de-certify and re-certify, this wouldn't end up before the SCOTUS? I'm trying to picture what a mess it would be if the SCOTUS did punt again after the re-certification? Would Congress have to de-certify then? Seems like SCOTUS would have to rule that the de-certification and re-certification as valid or else it would create even confusion.

I would think the states would decertify, it would go to the SC, the SC would send it back to the states and then the states would decide to either go with the legal counted votes or have another legal election! But thats just my humble opinion with not knowing law or the constitution!

@Wiggumc1That one Major Federal Question - which can only be asked by State Legislatures, and answered in only one way by SCOTUS - is the trigger that was left behind that enables a challenge - and a proper Constitutional count AS THE ONLY POSSIBLE REMEDY.As I see it, they left it deliberately open for that reason alone. @timr @OneRandomGuy @ChrisYork87 @DuaneCates @MrHobbit @redwhitebluedude @EnjoyTheSearch @drawandstrike

@StevenDouglasMakes sense. Can't remember if it was before or after the "insurrection" that they limited the number of reps in the chamber. However I can see Pence realizing what was on the way if the election was successfully challenged so he allowed it to happen. @Wiggumc1The brilliance of leaving that door open is that the issue has NOTHING to do with the results of the count. @Wiggumc1Normally a SCOTUS 'precedent' refers to a decision made where the law was not abundantly clear to everyone. Fortunately, this is not the case with what happened on January 6th. Clear Constitutional instructions, a clear violation, and a binary decision. But you are right. Once established (BY THEM) it can later be challenged and ruled on in the context of a larger (Joint Session deficiency challenge) framework.Theoretically they could challenge it now, but that would just force a proper 12th Amendment count now - before fraud is fully established (again, BY THEM).

@timr Perhaps, but people ought to remember that the mid-ranking Democrats might know how badly their party actually did in 2020.Moreover, today's feverish anti-Trump polarization is the natural culmination of the Bush/Obama/Clinton years. The divide has never been this vast. The Democrats historically had far less extreme rhetoric and policies. Not so much out of the goodness of their hearts, but out of the will to survive, I suspect we will be surprised by some in the Democrat party.

@timr There is no indication, now. I agree. But we have state audits to complete. If the dust settles on the side of proven fraud in our elections, I believe it would be enough to effectively neuter Dems in DC.@OneRandomGuy @ChrisYork87 @DuaneCates @MrHobbit @redwhitebluedude @EnjoyTheSearch @drawandstrike

@DuaneCates @drawandstrike @redwhitebluedude @Ibrake4butterflies @timr @Annasmom22 @OneRandomGuy @ChrisYork87 @MrHobbit @EnjoyTheSearch Does anyone remember what Nancy said regarding the necessity of dragging President Trump, kicking and screaming, from the White House?? Kinda makes me wonder if she got the identities mixed up (wouldn't be surprised)...

@Annasmom22 @redwhitebluedude @DuaneCates @drawandstrike @Ibrake4butterflies @timr @OneRandomGuy @ChrisYork87 @MrHobbit @EnjoyTheSearch January 6th speech, right after Trump took the stage:"You don't concede when there's theft involved. Our country has had enough and we will not take it any more."No. He most definitely and explicitly did not concede.
