@moth @nik @rats lol nope, wasn't me! :comfyunamused: I personally find WSL1 a lot more interesting since it's done as pluggable syscall interfaces in ntoskrnl.exe. Virtual machines are simply boring.

@newt @nik @rats Why do you think so? I am only just starting to understand how to use virtualization in cool ways myself, and you're already bored?

@moth @nik @rats oh.. I mean, it’s a common approach to use virtualization for something like this. WSL2 is basically Parallels but for Windows/Linux instead of Mac/Windows.On the other hand, I don’t think I can remember a kernel that combined multiple sets of syscalls to run software for two different OS. It’s like if Linux had Wine in the kernel. WSL1 is really unique in the approach, and that’s why it’s interesting for me.Technically, nothing stops Microsoft from implementing Mac interface in the same fashion, but somehow I think Apple would be really pissed.

@newt @nik @rats I've never used a mac or parallels, but I think I understand.

@mia @rats @moth @nik completely different thing. Midipix is a translation layer like winelib, if I understand correctly. Also it’s in development (still!), while WSL is shipped and ready for use.
