Honestly, why every programming language is based on English anyway? 🤔 I guess English being very easy helps, but wouldn't it be better if programming languages supported multiple human languages like other pieces of software? Like a python program typed in German for example?

@personBecause it would make things unnecessary harder for little gain and maybe would introduce awful stuff such as dialects and things like that.

@New001 There could be multiple versions made for specific versions, Chinese Python is an example of this (yes this exists apparently)

@person elinks is written in like estonian lua or somethingbut the answer is really, because grace hopper was english not germanthe germans had computers just as early, they just chose to write low-level code rather than invent langauges, or their languages that they did invent didn't catch on

@person I've been wondering as well:Couldn't you just put a translator stage for keywords before the regular compiler frontend?

@person while there are attempts to localise programming languages, basically changing the language they use, your Idea appears both new and infinitely better to me.

@person https://users.monash.edu/~damian/papers/HTML/Perligata.html... or APL has these weird symbols instead of keywords? (never written either one though)but yeah, sounds like a random historical artifact, just like the way the internet mostly speaks Englishat least we could agree on _something_ though :)

@person for the same reason fosstodon is English only I guess - people already speak it. And I think German Python wouldn't be compatible with English Python, which makes it less favorable to use or create at the first place.
